I just wanted to point out to everyone that Zachary is using the Flag of France that wasn't used until after the Revolution (1794) to represent a Canadian hamlet. Now, you may not think this is a big deal, but during the time of the French Revolution, Canada was owned by the British and used a Union Jack flag (1763-1965). So, that's 2 inaccuracies. The most Appropriate flag for this hamlet should be this:

The Flag of the French Colonies from 1663-1763.

That is a really good point. The British took control of Quebec as a result of the Seven Years (French and Indian) War in 1763 (Treaty of Paris). Plains of Abraham and all that.

I am certain that it was not going to be Switzerland, from what my foggy memory of the conversation implied it was going to be much more dramatic.

Funny. The Banbury Cross issue got me thinking about this discussion today, as well.

You have really piqued my interest. Surely someone out there knows?

Does the bear still have the camera around it's neck? I know at one point, prolly around '96-ish it had a balloon as well, that had the old BG logo on it. I remember it specifically because my memory is weird and has the bear some how linked to Wild (Izzy) Maus.

Does anyone remember the rat/mouse animatronic in the cage next to the cheese crate? You can see the cages in BGW Family's images. I remember the hut use to sit where the wooded area with the swings currently sit. Creepy old thing but added a bit of fun for the kids.

So, I was Googling junk, and I found this article from the Daily Press:

Busch Gardens Plans 220-foot-tall Ride

By ALISON FREEHLING Daily Press | January 6, 1996

Busch Gardens plans to build what would be the largest roller coaster in the theme park, 70 feet higher than Drachen Fire and double the height of the Big Bad Wolf. The ride already has sparked the fears of nearby residents who say they still are fighting noise problems associated with the 1992 opening of Drachen Fire. Busch Gardens officials released few details Friday about the proposed coaster, which would stand 220 feet at its highest point. It would be built in the New France section of the park.

Does anyone remember this? If so, why did it never happen?
Thanks! :)

Part of me wonders if these plans somehow became Alpengeist? Of course, the height is way off. But this is weird, I have to say.

Yeah, I was thinking alpengeist too, but 220 feet is not the height. In the full article, the spokeswoman said it was not a for sure thing (which is weird since coasters take years to plan) and that it would be in a ravine mostly hidden by trees. Strange.

Alpengeist is in a ravine... also, iirc, it's about 190 feet tall from the bottom of the ravine to the top of the lift.
