I heard that she had to ask as high as Kevin Lembke for permission to paint the bear. It's a rumor, but still, I think it's good to hear that the park didn't leave such an icon to anyone below him.

Anyway, the Bear's Paw is closed, and I don't mind it being there since it fits the new shop. I know it doesn't look very rustic, but it fits the authenticity of the village just as much as a Viking battering ram. To be fair, it's also pretty tucked away and I assume it could be repainted for each season. I like it, but I don't want much more of it either. It could look like 2014 Banbury very fast.

Edit: Also, I'm glad that the store is off the main pathway since photos are not permitted in the shop. It's better than taking up an area where people will take photos and happen to infringe upon that rule. That happened with another artist last year in Rhinefeld and it bugged me to no end that that artist fussed at people for taking photos of the centerpiece in the gift shop. This altogether provides a much more friendly atmosphere and I can't think of any other place that lends itself so well to an art gallery than a log cabin.

I wanna know why they made a hamlet themed after what's basically Canada in a Europe-themed theme park. They've already got a wooden coaster themed to Vikings, so why stop there? They might as well just retheme the hamlet to Scandinavia or smthg.

I thought the music was a playlist that they just have to hit play on assuming it isn't automated.

Which, given that there's a bunch of audio automation tools out there, would surprise me if it isn't automated.

A friend once related his experience working on a ride system in Oktoberfest over the winter. A dormant BBW with snow on the overhead track apparently was a visual wonder to behold.

Same buddy who wrote my name on the spine of one of the books in the DarKastle library (it was the done thing among a certain group, tolerated by the park as opposed to vandalism). I was never able to spot it while riding, but I do have the photo.

Sorry, were we talking about Canada?

I know a few people that lets just say used to work there and some of the winter pics of there and WCUSA were pretty cool. The Rhine River with the boats tied off out in the middle with the river froze over covered in snow was also pretty awesome.

The lady that does the annimal paintings has moved into the old candle Carver shop at least for the time being. You can alsombring a pet photo and comission a custom portrait but the prices are very high.

Almost all the buildings in New France got new wooden shingles. I didn't get a picture, but the show grill got a new roof as well.

The Canada Trader building's roof really needed it as it had a lot of moss on it. I still miss the arrows sticking into the roof of the General Store. But I do wonder if the roofs were replaced or just pressure washed. The General Store's roof was just replaced a few years if I'm not mistaken.

It’s interesting that you mention the arrows. I was just thinking about how New France used to have a presence of Native American theming in the area. I wonder if that was just removed due to disrepair and neglect along with much of the area’s other theming, or if there was a deliberate decision by the park to move away from the Native American references (not difficult to imagine why).

For example:

All pictures are from AmusementPics.com (an awesome resource for old photos of BGW in its final years before the AB sale).

There also used to be a full vignette featuring Native American mannequins in the rafters of the St. Lawrence Trading Post (now Trapper Dave’s General Store). I’ll need to dig through my old photos to find that.
