So, millions to replace with a near identical launch experience? "Yeah, I know that Chevy engine in your Vette works great, but we could replace it with this Dodge engine that would perform just as well for a buttload of money, and nobody would know the difference!"
According to the last El Toro Ryan video on it, they were spending $2M a year on TTD maintenance. That puts clarity into why they would do a seemingly pointless change and what the stakes are.

El Toro Ryan claims Intamin likely isn't involved...?

Can confirm. I surprised this is getting out so soon, but yeah, Intamin wasn't even aware the park didn't plan of reopening as is afaik until just before the announcement. They were none too happy and whatever the park plans to do, Intamin VERY much does not approve of. do not expect a new Intamin at any cedar fair park and this might have implications for other rides like xlerator(which should re-open) in a few years. The way Intamin sees it cedar fair is burning a bridge here and I'm not sure I disagree with them.

As for what I've heard about the replacement, nothing solid but I'm expecting an entirely different ride experience.

Not sure Intamin has too much they can say here. It would be one thing if the ride was a leased ride or there‘s a lifetime warranty, but absent that Cedar Point can do whatever they want after purchase that’s in line with the sales agreement. GCI isn’t out speaking about burning bridges just because RMC has come in to rehab some of their rides. No different here if Cedar Point uses another vendor for the work.

My understanding is that CP is using the ride structure in ways it was never intended for.

Cutting off relations with one of your historically biggest clients is a piss poor idea.

Doesn't help when you reverse engineer all the parts for the rides in order to cut costs and try to argue that "they're made to the same specifications" so that you can claim the manufacturer is still liable in court.

But yeah I don't particularly care for what Cedar Point does with their giant weenie project, but burning the bridge with Intamin in the process is 100% going to bite them in the ass in the future.

Ryan's video there seemed like a deep dive of speculation - it very well could still be Intamin making the observed modifications.

And if they go with one of the two LSM vendors directly... Well one of them is basically still Intamin, the other is a pretty solid company otherwise considering how many manufacturers they've contracted with.

The only big concern I can see is force calculations having to be redone including understanding the stresses on the structure with any new hardware and/or trains in use.

I think you got @warfelg ‘s point backwards. CF is Intamin’s client, not the other way around.

What killed Volcano was KD/CF making unauthorized repairs that did cause repairable damage but it boiled down to the Intamin/CF animosity that killed it because CF expected Intamin to basically fix the damage that resulted as a result of KD/CF's own negligence as part of the contract of the controls upgrade and refused to pay anything addiitonal. Intamin (rightfully so) wanted to charge extra because the damage that KD/CF caused was not part of the contract/pricing.
It sounds like when it comes to bargaining, CF doesn't bluff or bend. Hence the latest rumors.

It does.... but it's still ridiculous that they are hiding this behind the accident. This was going to happen soon anyway but the fact that everyone is saying the accident put them in this position is ridiculous.

Not even remotely shocked. With A3 Tech I don't know how much Intamin was really involved with maintenance of the ride.

Sure, Intamin can't stop them from doing what CP wants to TTD but Intamin can respond appropriately when Cedar Fair requests their help for their other rides.

Cedar Fair did that a long time ago. Intamin is most likely sick of dealing with Cedar Fair and I don't blame them one bit. It's pretty clear that CF isn't going to be buying another Intamin and with all that Cedar Fair is doing to work around Intamin with their current Intamin line up (A3 Tech, unapproved hardware, etc) what exactly is Intamin losing by cutting them off?

I'm of the opinion that CF is "over" the rainbow with Intamin because they have gotten out of them what they needed. Maverick, TTD, MF - all in some ways exist as the "pinnacle" of Intamin's offerings. S&S, Vekoma, RMC, hell even B&M have some things to offer that are surely of interest to CF and they will not feel a massive loss without Intamin in the mix.

It's kind of like a car company, you have options even when the brand you have purchased from in the past is no longer top of mind...

And yet in the last 5 years Intamin has been pushing the envelope with new rides that have been making them relevant again.

So, if the park does go through with this, all hope of any sort of new cf intamin ever, is pretty much not going to happen?

I think hope of CF getting a new Intamin vanished many years ago. My biggest concern right now is what's going to happen to existing Intamin attractions. Could we see an acceleration of Intamin removals...... is safety going to be at risk since it likely means CF/CP is going to lean even heavier into the reverse engineering and having A3 make parts that way.

Glad I got my i-305 credit in April, if they remove that, there will be RIOTS.
