I'm honestly puzzled at all of the concern over what happens to TTD. It goes up and it comes down. Meh. For me it is the kind of ride you do once and never waste your time on again.
For others, it is more. Some people like it a lot, some people don't. The people who do care about it are worried about what is going to happen to it. As someone who just really enjoys straight line speed, these things rock. Totally fair if you don't personally care about what happens to it, just odd to question why others care.

I am just genuinely surprised that people on a theme park forum are that enamored of a a coaster that to me seems to be mostly designed to impress casual guests with little to no coaster experience.

I'm glad y'all like it. To me, it is just a one-trick pony that feels like nothing and is over before it starts.

Fair enough, just is coming across as more of a "can't believe you enjoy this coaster obviously intended for casuals". I know your intent isn't to push some coaster enthusiast snobbery onto others simply because I've been around enough to know your general scope of thought, just feels odd to question other people liking something you don't in this manner.

I felt like on my day there it only had a line due to the slow dispatching and low capacity. Got off and while it was fun it wasn’t an overwhelming “need to do it” feeling. I think I only road it a second time because the XL-200 line was too long.

For me it’s because I never got to ride it so I’m hoping they change as little as possible or at least keep the height and speed as close to the original as they can.

That wasn't my intent! Sorry!

Honestly, if they do work with intamin, maybe they’ll eventually repair their relationship. I’d love a air launch, that’d be insanity. Like think About it, 0-120 in like
1.3 seconds, take the acceleration record from maxx force and dododonpa.
On another term, I think cf and rmc’s relationship is toast. Apparently SteVe will need a steel lift soon, they keep adding wood every day. It’s not good. And when cga bites the dust, I think they might just send RailBlazer to the scrap heap. That’s my take on all of this.
At that rate CF would run out of partners to work with quickly. It’s possible SteVe was recommended to have the steel lift and CF decided against it for cost savings. Given the way many of RMC’s taller coaster are built, I wouldn’t be too shocked if this was the case, especially since the ladder part of the ride weaves in and out of that structure a good amount and placing a steel lift could have meant a lot of moving parts.

Intamin has made faster rides with better layouts since this thing was built. I’d rather see something like Formula Rossa take its place.

Honestly it was my favorite coaster at CP by A LOT and without it I am a lot less interested in going to CP. I prefer Twisted Timbers over SteVe and I think i305 is a more insane and somewhat comparable coaster to Maverick. Magnum and Millie are the ones that make any kind of a difference to me.

I understand what you're saying about it being such a short ride but for me that launch was just unmatched. That's why I feel like TTD is dead regardless of what modifications they make. If they take that launch off of the coaster then it's absolutely pointless. I think there will be some redeeming qualities if they do go with a pneumatic launch but I still don't think it's going to compare. I really enjoy Storm Runner but, despite the acceleration on that ride being stronger than TTD, it doesn't compare because the launch isn't sustained. This is the same reason why I miss LIMs and would take them any day over LSMs.

As someone who rode Hypersonic: that had a more intense launch with a lot less space taken up. Both it and TTD failed to wow me with their layouts. Relying solely on a punchy launch and one hill just doesn’t do it for me. If they can add more of a layout after the top hat, I think it would be a huge improvement. Look at Storm Runner- much better coaster than Dragster or Ka will ever be.

Very much agreed. I enjoyed KK and TTD very much. I wouldn’t put down anyone who enjoys that launch, but I also don’t see getting all up in arms about it changing or going away. It’s been a problematic ride (and launch system in general) since it went up.

I think that TTD, much like Volcano, is a series of misremembering and misunderstandings about what's actually going on that lead people to believe it's such a huge nightmare. No, I'm not saying it's a B&M but I don't think I was ever there were the ride was closed for more than an hour and in most of those cases it was because of weather. Yes, it had a lot of problems when it opened but they really had things running quite well by now and had it figured out. I also really have to wonder how much of the problems that did happen were the fault of CF/CP themselves because we now have solid evidence that they were using below grade hardware on the ride.

But yea... I'm seriously upset about it going away or being changed. KK is the only ride comparable and it's very sub par with the OTSRs. And yes, it really is a huge factor in me not going to CP nearly as much anymore. From a coaster perspective I will now take Hershey over CP any day.

I don't particularly like Dragster, but I fully acknowledge the value and importance of Dragster. Legendary coasters often aren't great, but it doesn't make them any less valuable to the park in which they're housed. Just as normal folk thought Volcano when they heard Kings Dominion, people think Dragster when they hear Cedar Point. When a coaster reaches that iconic status in relation to its park, I think almost any expense can be justified to retain it—the cost of not doing so is often absolutely enormous. Again, see: Kings Dominion.

Anyway, the question shouldn't be whether or not we like Dragster, it should be whether or not we understand the value of Dragster and the impact that it has on normal guests' perceptions of Cedar Point. That's what determines whether or not it should be saved—and I tend to believe the answer to that question is crystal clear.

Counterpoint: Keeping something for nostalgic reasons can burn through resources and take up land that could be used for an attraction that might be the next Very Important Ride. I'm not advocating change for its own sake, but I think there is a tipping point when it makes more sense to investigate what might improve the lineup.

I’m sorry but personally, I take issue with both part of that.

I find the “misremembering and misunderstanding” thing as kinda dismissive, especially when not expanded upon. And I’d understand is if a majority of the NA based cable launched Intamins didn’t have the same issue. I get it, wind played some in the downtime. But I was there on plenty of non-windy days where it was down more than running.

And I can’t imagine writing off an entire park because of one ride. Heck I can’t even imagine staking my entire feeling of a park on one ride. Especially when we don’t know what the”reimagined” part is. Maybe the launch is going to be enclosed. Maybe it’s just a rerouting of everything to keep people away from the launch. Maybe it’s adding track after the launch. But I just can’t imagine dismissing a park because they are working on a ride that cause serious physical harm to someone.

I completely agree that the way to remove a coaster that has achieved such a legendary status is to construct a more legendary coaster. Unfortunately, I don't think anyone can imagine Cedar Point building a taller/faster "Dragster 2" from the ground up right now.

But could they build a tophat with a more interesting course that includes a variety of high-thrill elements?

I feel CP shot themselves in the wheel (hehe coaster pun) trying to always go record breaking. Especially as they kept doing it when the coaster wars died off. While I don’t enjoy Intamins of this era, it’s why I think Maverick is CP’s best coaster.

Firstly, just because it's not window on the ground doesn't mean it's not windy 420ft in the air. Because of TTD being my favorite coaster there were a couple times where the ride went down while I was in line and I decided to stick it out long after most people abandoned the line. One such time I was confused as to why the ride was down because maintenance wasn't there and the winds were virtually non-existent and a completely clear day. An op actually told me the difference between what was felt on the ground and what was happening on the sensors at the time of the tower were drastically different.

And cable launches in NA having similar issues? Storm Runner is rock solid...... Two major differences IMHO: Hershey takes care of their rides like the mfgs suggest/require and SR isn't going to have major issues with wind due to it's layout and positioning.

As for the second part you're completely taking what I said and twisting it. I never said I was writing the park off..... There is value in going to CP but that value, to me, is drastically less than many other parks. When I went to CP I rode TTD multiple times and generally rode SteVe once, Maverick once..... and a couple rides on each of Magnum and MF. I never once said that I'd never go to CP again or that the park is absolutely trash or anything remotely like what you're suggesting I said. All I said is, for me, there are other parks now that I would rather visit that I will enjoy a lot more. As for what the change is going to be, you're right...... but can you honestly tell me that you think that launch is going to remain?

I honestly think the launch will remain, as well as the top hat. The problem that closed it is unrelated to both, and could be fixed by doing NOTHING to the ride itself, simply rerouting the queue line. Removing the most expensive parts of the ride to redo it in some way? No chance. If TTD reopens in some different form, I think those parts will stay. Otherwise, there's no reason to keep any of it.
