The best part is that my wife and I made the trip half way across the country to visit yesterday and today, and didn't get to ride it.

At one point in time yesterday, TT2, Gatekeeper, Magnum, Gemini, and Valravn were all down at once. Millie was a late opener. Lift hill evac on Magnum.

This morning, just after the TT2 announcement, there were only 3 coasters running in the whole park, none of which are on anyone's top-5-in-the-park list.

CP, from an operations perspective, was a complete dumpster fire this weekend... but the BBQ was better than KD's, Breakers room was clean, and the staff were friendly.
I applaud you for finding the positives in a bad situation. Feels like not many people do that anymore.

ElToroRyan seems to believe that Cedar Point may be planning to reopen TT2 with the existing, defective parts in place.

Conceptually, I understand that this could work depending on the exact issue, but at the same time, uh, is this really the approach Cedar Fair, in particular, should be taking with Top Thrill, in particular? 😬

Would love to know what the part in question is. I had heard some crazy (and unproveable) stuff about the wheel assemblies, but there's no earthly chance they would operate it in an actually broken state. Theoretically, if it's just an easily replaceable part that's wearing faster than expected (but not actually failing), and you have enough replacement parts to get by until a new part can be engineered & delivered, then that could be a valid temporary solution.

Whatever they do... they just better be SURE of it.

It's common knowledge that CP operations are always this bad when it opens for the season. I have friends that used to work there and they told me the first 4-6 weeks of the season is basically a technical rehearsal for the park to get a good workflow going. They can't fully staff the place until all the local kids are done for the school year which is early to mid June. They said if you wanna come to CP when it's running efficiently then plan on visiting late June and after.

This video had some ideas about timelines, reasons, etc.

Conclusion of the video is wheels, specifically wheel compound. If they have enough spare wheels, and the compound isn't coming off in chunks, they may run it at reduced capacity. If the wheels are failing in a dangerous fashion, then they need to run a different wheel compound; expect it to be down for around 2 months, as that's about how long it can take for new wheels to be re-lined. Shorten the time frame if they had some spares with different compounds already prepped.

There was also a mention of bogey/wheel alignment, and guide wheel spacing as a possibility, but the wheels are likely the reason the ride is down.

From what I understand on this, we a re looking a at a "back to the drawing board" kinda fix. I wouldn't plan a TT2 involved trip this year. You might get lucky late in the season, but there is a chance that in another month or so they just shift the goalposts to opening day 2025.

Understand from where? If this is true that is a massive screw up by Zamperla (and Cedar Point). Oof.

In Zamperla's defense it's a lot harder to engineer off something already built, vice do a ground up build (this is true in any field). There are hard to test assumptions in there that just won't show up until you stress test it a bit

Was the change in the heartline the problem? It seems like if it is flinging the cars outward when it spins around, then with a full train that would create more stress on the wheels. But I'm no engineer, needless to say.

Already accepted the fact it wouldn’t be open for my June trip, but with recent talks and the context this video provided I’m starting to feel a little more optimistic…we’ll see if any testing gets done in the next week….

This thread is about TT2, not weather closures. You already have a full thread dedicated to your pet project.

Cedar Fair loves to screw customers to save a buck. That’s why top thrill is closed already. They went with the cheap manufacturer.
