The sod was coming off off KD branded vehicles. The grass disappeared off the hill at the same time. You're right Matthew, it is not a typical practice. But using a sod machine to scrape the side of a hill isn't exactly rocket science and the park is completely capable. Maybe they scraped all of the grass off that hill for no reason, but usually the most obvious reason is the correct one. What makes you think that the grass on the hill wasn't maintained? It was much greener than the weeds growing under 305.

Again, where has any of this been confirmed? Having watched the sod laying myself, I saw nothing that indicated it was coming directly off of KD-branded vehicles. Just because the park opened and that hillside was absent of grass does not mean that the sod-laying occurred at the same time that hillside got ridded of grass, that is just an unjustified assumption. Additionally, if you look at Google Earth you can see that the grass surrounding that "scraped-off" area is a distinctly different color from the sod around Delirium (brown compared to green).

I know you're just trying to make sense of this by putting events and clues together, but the facts I also have about sod laying and fescue tell me this is highly unlikely considering the type of fescue around Delirium and the fescue on that field which are not nearly similar. Therefore, I will look at a similar situation in Festhaus park at BGW where lots of dirt was being moved around on a slope for erosion control, which they are also doing again currently (but no one is assuming it might be for a roller coaster, because they are already building one). That would be my reasonable explanation.

Besides, does anyone actually think that area is the most viable place for park expansion?
No, not at all actually. Infact I think its an awful place for an attraction. However, its apparent something is going on at the park. The grass in that area is totally off from whats found at Delirium. I think its something worth mentioning that the firework theory is clearly busted... So whats next?

I saw a bulldozer in that area this weekend. It appeared to have been smoothing the ground. I don't think an attraction would go there, but any chance they might add a storage building there for off season storage?

I have heard absolutely nothing about 2017. This usually means they will just BS their way through any improvements or additions. Probably throw something together last minute and announce a new horse for the carousel. If it was going to be anything significant, they would be teasing like every other park in the country.

Cedar Fair parks that are getting big additions for the upcoming year usually make their announcements late July/early August. Parks that are getting smaller additions or flat rides make their announcement late August (like when KD announced Delirium). Parks not getting any rides will announce in September (like when the KD40 celebration was announced).

At this point, we'd be lucky to get one of those late-August announcements.

dont you think with hurler that they would announce whatever they're doing with it whether it be a GCI retrack, RMC iron horse treatment or a complete tear down into something new. because the company doing the work will say a lot about the project

2017 Annoncement coming August 20th. Chad read off one of the rumors that there is B&M track in Ohio in the video. Not saying that's what's happening but the fact it was mentioned does make me wonder. Why would they include that? Then announce something that could be a let down compared to that.

We already know Carowinds is getting a flat ride package. I feel the only competitor for a coaster right now is Valleyfair. They've recently released a statement that their enterprise is heading out the door to make room for new thrills. Maybe we can expec that? Which I would be fine with. A larger flat ride selection at KD is aye-ok with me. In fact, there is a decent amount of land around Delirium, thus further revitalizing that mid-way feel of CAG.

Although, if something larger (like a coaster) was coming I feel it would've been leaked by now or teasing would've started. Let's see what happens.

EDIT: Here's the link to the video and a few things I didn't pick up on before.
1. When the green track is mentioned, he says "try red"
2. Someone jokes about not riding hurler and Chad replies "maybe you'll ride what replaces it.

Hmmmmm. Maybe I'm getting too excited but damn it that does sort of point to an RMC conversion.
Unlikely I know, but let me dream.

What I find interesting is that the new park GM is keeping tabs on what is going on in the forums of KD fan sites. I thought I recognized a few comments read back from Chad. Nice to see that we are getting info from the top of the KD management chain.

plus the whole "i wouldn't be surprised if GCI is who they brought in for hurler renovations, particularly seeing as they did work at carowinds" then his response was " i think that's the only place they work." so can we rule out a GCI retrack? and then he said no green, try red. I'm also thinking green... red... WINTERFEST because we know that other parks are getting winterfest for 2017 so why not KD

I can't decide whether Gary Chad is dropping genuine hints in that video, or if he's just spouting random tidbits to throw us off.

So, content of the video aside, what has me most intrigued is the announcement date, August 20. That's over 2 weeks away.

The KD40 celebration's announcement date was released one day in advance. Soak City was announced with zero teasing in advance. Delirium's announcement date was also released one day in advance.

So, the mere fact that the announcement is being hyped up more than two weeks longer than usual has me interested. I think we're getting something bigger than we expected, in some way or another.

I am not ruling out a bigger better ride, however I would caution everyone against being overly excited at this point. It is possible that KD has been moved to the same level as Dorney and if that is the case, I doubt we will see much capital spent here. I would not be surprised to see more recycled flats.

I think CF is doing a pretty good job keeping KD on an upward rise to stay competitive with the two other parks an hour away. Yes it's possible they could be dropping the importance level of KD, but I don't think it will happen. They just put in a multi million dollar flat, and now they are making announcements about an announcement. Chad DID acknowledge the fan that noticed construction crews on Doswell road, and he answered with, "yes it's possible that they are there for a 2017 project." Huge Soak City improvement 2 years ago, huge flat ride last year, some announcement buzz going on now. Anyone know what Dorney's improvement record is for the last three years?

CF is doing a decent job by just up-keeping the park but as far as staying competitive, they haven't done that much.  It's been 10 years since Cedar Fair purchased the Paramount Parks and in that time they've moved an existing coaster (Dominator) and only installed one (305).  Add to the fact that it's going on 7 years since their last roller coaster installation.  The Paramount years didn't even see a gap that long (longest was a four year gap between Ricochet and Stunt coaster).  Yes, they put in a big expensive flat ride this year, but that's not gonna move the needle.  A new coaster is the only true factor in boosting the gate attendance significantly. As far as the "importance level" of KD, it was automatically dropped when Cedar Fair announced that they wanted Carowinds to be their southeastern flagship park.

Dorney got new Flying Scooters last year.  Other than that nothing has happened significantly over the last three years.
