That would be so awesome, a racing hyper.
No offence Maz, but I hate that idea. I love Rebel Yell as she is. In some ways she is the Loch Ness of KD. Does she need some love, you bet she does. But I hate the idea of replacing a great woodie with steel coaster.
No I love the idea of racing hyper coasters. In fact I suggested it earlier, (post 169) including a backwards train. I just don't want one to replace Rebel Yell.
KD has plenty of open property; there's no need to destroy one of the few wooden roller coasters in VA, not to mention one of KD's opening day rides, to build something new.

b.mac is right. KD's last remaining 150 acres to develop on is pretty much land locked behind the water park. For a coaster as large as a hyper, something would have to be removed. While confirming this information on the Hanover county GIS site, I noticed something else very interesting. The last time I referenced the site about a year ago, all of the individual tax parcels that collectively make up Kings Dominion were labeled 'Cedar Fair Properties, Sandusky OH"... Now all of the same tax parcels are labeled 'Kings Dominion LLC, Dallas TX'...Hmmmmmm. Anyone out there with more real estate knowledge that could explain this?
Even though I love dinosaurs, Dinosaurs Alive! should be the one to go; I've never liked having an up-charge attraction in the park.
I hope Avalanche stays. It's a unique coaster, one of the few non-Wild Mouse Mack coasters in the US, and one of the more "inclusive" attractions at Kings Dominion.

When you own a corporation, there are multiple ways to earn more tax breaks. One of the most common methods I've heard of is once a corporation is large enough, you can create a separate "dummy" entity and sell off assets at a super undervalued rate to a company you still technically control. You can also apparently have that company feed assets and money back to your primary company and report that company as operating at a loss to make even larger tax breaks for your larger parent entity...
These are just a few of the things I've heard. I can't ensure this is 100% accurate but a practice I hear about often.
It is also possible that one company leases from the other. In that way the smaller company is not burdened with the higher taxes. It could also be a hold over from Paramount. It could be they set something like this up and now Cedar Fair has to work with it.

So much blasphemy in this thread. KD better not touch Rebel Yell or Grizzly. Both are the best woodies in the park. Why not take out that POS Hurler instead? Its in a dead end corner of the park, it runs like garbage, and it sits on real estate that can give easy access to the water park as the splash house and the kiddie area are just behind the trees.
As for the hyper, with 305 in the park already, KD doesn't really need one IMO. The other parks with hyper/giga combos added their gigas after adding their hypers. I think the park could use another launch coaster. Maybe one of those launched wing coasters or a launched flyer. It would be a nice way to take back the launch coaster capital title while providing a great ride.
Exclusivity clause thing, nobody really knows whether or not it really exists. Yes its plausible that Busch has exclusivity on dive machines, but any exclusivity would've expired ages ago. Until someone can confirm that it did happen, I think its a myth. It could still be coincidence that the US hasn't seen a DM in 10 years (or how KD hasn't seen a new B&M) and to be fair, the competition pretty much provides cheaper/better alternatives anyway.

I think taking out hurler, starting a hyper or other big coaster in its current area, letting it run along the property line(where the grave yard is), then letting it make a right where it would be about to hit I-95, let it run along I-95, then turn it back and make it go all the way back to where hurler currently is.(where the station would supposedly be) That way Old Virginia wouldn't need to be touched, they could bring business back to that area of Candy Apple Grove, do some amazing advertising along the interstate, and make a decently long ride experience.

I305 is mainly know for its height, speed, and intense turns. The hyper coaster some of us are talking and hoping about would be known for airtime and hills. Two diffrent genres of coasters. The only thing the two would share would be the taller heights than compared to the others in the park. So having a giga and a hyper in the same park, imo, would be awesome as they both would offer complete diffrent experiences.
Kings dominion would likely not get a hyper with apollos chariot just around the corner. People woud just go to BGW if they wanted to ride a hyper. A wing coaster in the 200ft range would be a better fit or a flying coaster. Although i wouldnt mind a hyper. Just some of my thoughts.
You know what would be amazing. If they built a tribute to King Kobra. Size it to a hyper but still make it lap bar only. (sorry no B&M or Intimin) For capacity's sake they could run a dual track and it could be LIM launch.
