Yeah, these look hideous...not just because they look cheap and are nowhere near as charming (dare I say vintage?) as the old trains, but for exactly those reasons alone.

tbqh i get scared going into the tunnel because seeing the tracks as i spiral down makes me nervous with how close they are.

the darkness doesn't help, but i guess it's meant to make you frightened

If this was Uni, they could easily tear down the inner walls and enclose the top. In reality, such an undertaking is way outside the scope of the park and I've suggested such a thing as a joke.
