Next year won't only be the debut of the Virtual Reality attraction in Ireland, but our beloved Loch Ness Monster shall turn 40 in 2018. That's something worth celebrating and I'm sure the park has something in mind for it.

I've taken five rides on her this year and in my opinion she's running terribly rough. It might just be me but lots and lots of head banging.

At ACE Dives a couple weeks ago someone asked if the park would bring back tunnel lights for Nessie's 40th. Suzie said that the park didn't have any specific plans for Nessie's 40th yet, but they would talk about that proposal in particular.

The pessimist in me says, that means they're going to go back and talk about how they're not going to do anything.

This has me pretty excited.

Sea World sells Shark bubble machine toys next to the mako shark ride and also whale bubble machine toys throughout the park. These toys also light up. I was thinking the other day, if they made a loch ness version, I would probably get one for my kids. Could be a 40th anniversary item I guess.

Same here... and there is a jarring vertical spine crushing motion coming out of the loops which KILLS my back. I'm afraid to ride it anymore because of that.
I didn't ride Nessie on my last park visit, but the time before that, I thought something was off, that it felt rougher than last year. I thought I had been sloppy with bracing my head or something, lol. Guess not. I've always felt a weird jarring motion out of the loops but thought it was more noticeable or something, I don't know. I'll have to try a few rides in different spots on the train next week and see if that doesn't make a difference. (probably going Tuesday or Wednesday, most likely)

I suppose it doesn't help that I usually go in the very back, though I like the second-to-back row since there's more leg room. I'm not tall (5'5" ish), but I don't particularly like feeling kind of squished.:p

I have gotten the spine-crushing jackhammer effect in the back seats since the late 90s. And the front seats crush my jaw against the restraint during the climb-and-turn after the first drop. But riding with my 2nd grade and kindergarten aged daughters last summer (their choice! so proud!), they insisted on sitting in the middle of the train. I found it surprisingly smooth, even through the loops. Never thought I'd say mid-train was my favorite seat, especially vs. that epic back row. But my spine and my fatherly pride both prosper in car 4...
