I like to think the same and there is also a possible ancestral connection to Loch Ness as well been doing research on where the family came from and we have Irish and Scottish origins.

After what we've seen with Le Scoot recently, and the park's apparent focus on it's history, perhaps now is a good time to lobby for a refurbishment of the cave effects. It's been brought up before, but if it get brought up enough to ring in the ears of management perhaps it might be something that at the very least gets brought up.

Who ever installed the new finale effects on Big Thunder Mountain should do Nessies cave with these effects.

The lighting for the lit fuses is amazing.

The fuses are not really appropriate for Nessie but maybe they could do fire effects on the walls of the cave along with smoke effects in places as you spiral down and install a Nessie head at the exit for A final big bang of smoke coming out of the mouth as you leave the cave for the second lift. Granted the trip down the spiral is a lot faster than a lift hill and it might be difficult to do getting the lighting to sync up with a fast moving coaster train but I am sure it wouldn't be impossible.

I know the Loch Ness Monster mythically is not a fire breathing water monster but it would be A neat addition to the helix section of the ride if something like this was added. Unless the story was spun that the monster was trapped in the cave and charges had been placed to flush it out and that would allow the fuse effect in the video above to be used. Either one would be an exciting addition to the ride IMO.

The Finale sequence is at around 2:50 in if not interested in the whole ride.

Just my thoughts.

Edit: The videos intent is to give an example of new technology that is available to parks to enhance existing attractions which i think some examples in the video could be used to impressive effect in Nessies cave and Helix.

I think some light effects, some fog, some sound effects would be a great addition to Nessie. Maybe something of going wrong in the expedition and encountering the "real" Nessie. Put a little more to the story.

Wow, thanks for re-awakening a memory I had riding it as a kid in 2002. I didn't realize that the effects were there since it opened in 1978, I always assumed that the effects were added in the 1990's and the whole point of the ride was that you ARE the Loch Ness Monster itself and didn't need another Nessie in the cave. But thanks for clearing that up.

I take it you never saw the original effects. You basically described the effects that the ride had for the first 25 years.

EDIT: here's a POV

Just watching that POV made me lurch internally on that mini-lift right out of the cave. I have phantom-whiplash.

Thanks Zachary. It's still cool that when you are in the car, you become the Loch Ness Monster, and I'm sure that is what Busch Gardens and Arrow had in mind when they built it.

With the land clearing in place and that whole area treeless, the park should extend the tunnel to the brake run and maybe make the inside of the tunnel much wider for special effects again. Doesn't even need fog, just add some strobes, blacklight props like Bolt, maybe some sound effects - it would def enhance the ride experience.

The ride seems to fly through the first brakes in that video. Wish the ride still ran like that. Got a zen ride last spring with the brakes toned down and it was intense.

So why were all the tunnel effects abandoned? Was it a maintenance thing? I like the idea of adding in some more effects in that area. Still love the ride.

In the wikipedia article it mentions that the mist sprayers at the beginning of the tunnel were removed for unknown reasons, though they allude to an incident were a rider claimed that the sprayers were filled with chemicals and sued for damages. It's all strange really

the effects were not original as has been previously indicated. (from what I understand) the fog was removed because it was causing electrical issues. The strobe is still there, but I do not know what happened to the painted monster.
