^^-- They could draw 5000 some of the time if only open weekends with full day sessions -- normal schedule for mid-Sept. -- although some people wouldn't be there all day or even at the same time.

You could even implement a no-show penalty into this system—if you no-show, you don’t get that reservation slot back during the current event. If you no-show twice, you would effectively be barred from visiting the current event unless you purchase a single day ticket. This seems super fair in my opinion.

They need to fix their cancelation system before they can do that. The last week of C&B I tried seven different times from a combination of my cell and computer and kept being told that I could not change or cancel my reservation as it had already been scanned. this was a day BEFORE the reservation finally gave up and just booked the the new slot and said screw it it's only for one so it likely won't matter.

I tried to cancel one of my reservations last month for C&CB because it ended up being one of the super heavy rain days. I couldnt even get through on the phone. My guess is they are actually booking 1200-1300 reservations figuring enough people will know show and/or only spend 2hours there so they dont really care enough to put in enough effort to allow people to cancel officially.

If it's within 24 hours of the start of your reservation then you can't cancel online but can call to have it cancelled.

That’s not great. I had to no show Friday because I was sick. There wasn’t a way to do it online so I gave up to opt for rest. I felt bad, but not bad enough to spend an hour on hold about it.

I specifically said it was literally impossible to get anyone on the phone to cancel, so no you cant call to have it cancelled.

You'll notice that I lumped your post with another post. You both stated having issues with cancelling reservations and I was informing everyone as to why. If you attempt to cancel within 24 hours then it won't allow you to do so online. But yes you can call to have them cancelled. I have done it before, just have to be willing to wait on the phone.

That’s a problem, most people if they decide not to come there’s another reason unless it’s just crappy weather so they aren’t willing to sit on hold for a hour because they have something to do. I’ve had a couple now that I had to no show for because of last minute having to work and I cant sit on the phone for a hour at work to cancel for that night. It would be nice if the app pushed out a alert the morning g of the event asking if you were still coming and if you click
yes your reservation stays and if you click no it has a cancel
option right there. Then open up those reservations at say 9am for the morning session and noon for the 4pm session. Again.....i’m saying that would be nice but I in no way thing BGW is capable or willing to do this.

They could do emails the day before with a confirmation. But how do you handle the people that don’t confirm? Let them in anyways? Make them wait for confirmed guests to show up at a certain number?

I like @Zachary ‘s idea but I would make it a touch less restrictive and do 3 reservations at any time and you get back a reservation for every one you show up at. It allows you to keep booking even if you miss one.

I’ll be honest I got a friend that I ripped a new one over the weekend. She had booked double bookings on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday but planned to only go to one session based on when her kids would want to go. Doesn’t sound too bad right? But she books for her family (4), her brothers family (5), and her parents (2). I couldn’t let that go. She took up 88 bookings in a 4 day span to take her kids on their schedule rather than telling them tough shit this is when we are going.

It's good that you do this, but BGW shouldn't even being allowing someone to make that volume of reservations, particularly if they are no showing or not putting down cash deposits.

If the goal is to limit exposure to covid at the park then punishing no-shows would be a bad idea. It would make it more likely for people that know or suspect that they are sick or not feeling well to show up at the park to not get punished.

A system with limited reservations seems to be the better solution there.

For 1 person to be able to book 88 sessions over 1 weekend definitely sounds a bit excessive.

to be honest she shouldn't even have been able to book 88 sessions over the course of a month. this is a pretty big fail on BGWs reservation system

FWIW she told me this last Monday. It’s really 8 reservations in 4 days for 11 people, just as a family it was 88. I was able to talk her into giving up Monday night, Friday and Saturday during the day. The only one they ended up missing was Monday during the day. But still. Their initial plan shows the major flaw in no penalty for a no-show. Members feels emboldened to book a bunch of times and not showing up unless they want to.

I felt guilty wanting to book two sessions in a day, or perhaps an evening session followed by an afternoon the following day as I thought it would be selfish. And, we are more than 6 hours away! In the end, we opted not to go since we have quarantine rules here in NJ that I need to abide by.

its so hard reading about these events, especially since Food and a Wine has been one of my faves. But it’s just not in the cards for us this year. Even though I expect some type of Halloween event (which I also love) I just cannot imagine any scenario that would include houses. Hoping to get back next year.
