Top of Apollos Chariot is the best spot in the park. You get an unobstructed view of the fireworks and a fantastic ride at the same time.

A few years ago I got that top-of-Apollo experience during my first ride of the summer, just one hour after driving down to W-burg for my first BGW visit since probably 1999.

Is this "event" ever going to be over with? I have hardly been to the park since it started. When I do, I avoid Italy all together. :'(
I just miss San Marco being San Marco. It was my favorite area to hang out at dusk, riding the rides. I actually had to explain to a family member that it is supposed to be the Da Vinci Garden of Invention area. They never knew this because everything is always covered up with Summer and Halloween and Christmas decor. It's only in it's original splendor for a short time in the spring.

I'm sorry, but in my opinion San Marco doesn't look like the U.S. during PornoNights. To me it more closely resembles an American strip mall from the early 80s. The decorations are a cheap characature of how we celebrate our national day of independence.
Furthermore, as we have observed before, the 4th of July does not commemorate a war, so none of the WWII details make any sense at all, unless you are Ronald Reagan and actually believe they were the "Greatest Generation." I suppose one could make the case that declaring independence led to a war with Great Britain, but that was in the 18th Century, and people can go to Colonial Williamsburg for that theming.

The only positive thing I've heard anyone say about it is they like the music. Other than that, everyone I've gone with is confused about the decor.

I'm not discrediting your dislike of the event, but as someone who is pretty patriotic and enjoys swing music, it's not bad. San Marco is well designed, but it's not like you can't see that with these decorations up. It's not an architectural marvel, it's a theme park.

I am really happy to hear that Star Spangled Nights won't be returning. It also had no business running through September. I wouldn't be surprised if Bier Fest is extended though. I hope it wouldn't be for too long.
