So, we are currently sitting at Marco Polos eating. When we were ordering at 12:12 a person came up to the person serving my food and told her that as soon as she finishes serving me to clock out and go home. The girl asks why, she said something about projections or crowds or something. Doesn’t Marco Polos open at 11? So she came all the way to work for a hour? And they wonder why they have trouble keeping employees.
It's supposed to rain and honestly workers are normally in about an hour and a half to 2 hours earlier than a restaurant opening. Plus no matter how long you work. BGW's policy is you get paid for at least 2 hours even if you get some home early. So if she did get in at 11 then she got paid for 2 hours and only did one hour of work.

This is simply the park is probably really slow today because the weather sucks. A lot of people know that when they come to work that they are probably going to go home early on a day like today. This is not just a BGW issue. The same thing happens at literally every theme park on the planet. Even Disney World. When it rains there aren't a lot of people in the park so they don't need as many employees.

This isn't even a problem unique to service industries though. This also happens a lot in healthcare. "We don't have a full roster of patients today so one staff is going to have to go home" etc.

It doesn't make it fair.. but when you have businesses tightening the belt on profit margins, one of the easiest places to do so is to manage the hours of your non-salaried workers.

Suns out at the park FYI.....but anyhow I know this happens all the time, I understand that’s how it works and it happens. But the employee was visibly mad....my point is if they didn’t treat employees like they do they would have better employees and probably plenty interested in working in the off peak season.

Is there any evidence that BGW struggles to find enough workers? That's a problem Kings Dominion has, but I've never gotten the impression that BGW isn't finding most of the staff they're looking for.

When ever there is a discussion here on something being closed in spring or fall. people always chime in that when kids are in school and go back to college they have trouble finding people to work.

This is where I think if they treated employees better you would get more retired folks to work, but they aren’t getting retired people to drive here only to be sent home. I know it’s just business.....

Interestingly, one of my favorite employees is retired military.. we usually see him working the wine tasting either in Germany or Canada New France (when the tasting booth there is running). I think, for most people, you either love him or can't stand him as he has a pretty straight up no bull**** personality.

One time we were doing a tasting and this very pushy lady came up and demanded she be served immediately. He very calmly said "I'm in the middle of pouring these people's drinks right now. I'll be with you when it's your turn." She took his name and left fuming. After she left he was like "... Sigh, I'll probably be written up for that... But oh well..."

Lots of employees get mad but you can't keep people because they are mad they have to leave. You also have to be fair and not send home the same people every time.

Also the sun might be out but according to the weather forecast the rain is coming soon. Supposed to be thunderstorms all night starting at 3 pm
