Recently, Six Flags announced auditions for performers for a water parade and accompanying show. The production will feature two touring casts, one of which is scheduled to appear at Kings Dominion this summer midway through the tour (exact dates have not yet been released). The performers are being hired through a third-party company, and the casting appears to be limited to individuals based in New York City.

In addition to Kings Dominion, the production is slated to visit Six Flags Over Georgia, Six Flags Over Texas, Dorney Park, Carowinds, and Valleyfair.

Based on what I can find on ot I have mixed feelings. One one hand the kids which are a key demographic for the park will likely enjoy it. On the other hand it feels very much like a cheap way of saying see look entertainment without actually spending much on entertainment.

My main problem, as noted before, is how they’re going about hiring for the parade. Grand Carnivale featured many local performers and the parks would hire their own cast, but Six Flags corporate wants to cast everything this year through an agency. They even said in the posting that they want those auditioning to be based in NYC, which is unrealistic for so many people who just want to perform locally in an already saturated local performing job market.

Without dates we have no real idea the amount of time that they plan to run this at each listed park. Hiring on boarding, and training new preformers for each park is likely fairly expensive for something that may only be lasting a few weeks. I would think a traveling one time hire core group just might make for sense from a budget perspective.

Oh it totally makes sense from a budget perspective! It just sucks for those local performers.

I totally agree about the the lack of local performers, but here's hoping that the Splash parade isn't the ONLY entertainment for the summer. Budget cuts have really hurt, but going from Carnivale to the Golden Summerbration to just a parade would be a HUGE disappointment (no merch/food sale opportunities). I'm hoping that at minimum they at least still have a show on the main stage that alternates with the parade, and if those were local performers that performed all summer rather than the 3-4 weeks the parade will be in town, that will help. After all, they got a huge lighting package for ET, i-street and the main stage that hopefully they continue to put to use. Hopefully all that equipment wasn't just on loan.

If I'm not mistaken, the company hiring for the Splash Parade is different from Windish, who is also hiring for Six Flags live entertainment. I'd have to imagine that KD won't go all summer without some sort of replacement event right, even if it is scaled back? Or MAYBE we get a new iteration of Let's Get Wild...

I’d be surprised if Windish doesn’t have a show at KD this summer. They’ve been involved with something at KD pretty much every season for a few years now.

Also, yes, Creative Streak Entertainment is a different company and is hiring for all Six Flags parks this season. Parks seem to also be hosting their own auditions in addition to CSE, too.

I also agree on the event thing. They need to bring back an event similar to Grand Carnivale OR an event that runs along with the Water Parade.
