Sixty years ago today, April 22, 1964, the New York World's Fair opened to the public. One of the standout attractions from the fair was the Swiss Sky Ride, giving fairgoers a spectacular view of the entire fair as well as the New York Skyline beyond.
Ten years after the Fair, parts of Von Roll built Skyride made their way to Great Adventure after a side trip to northern New York State for a project that fell through. Along with parts of the defunct Freedomland park Skyride, Great Adventure's iconic Skyirde was created, using the stations and cabins from the World's Fair with Freedomland's towers.
Today we celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Skyride, and look forward to its reopening for Great Adventure's 50th later this spring!
