I’m going to miss Wild One, Batwing and Superman so much. I really hate this. If they were going to relocate Wild One, at least, it wouldn’t be quite so bad. I don’t have any season passes this year, but I might buy an SFA pass just so I can get a lot of last rides in before these are gone Forever. Ugh.

Its sad news but not surprising, I wonder if the local demographics are a factor in this decision? SFA is the only park that someone attempted to break into my car which happened on my last trip there 15 years ago. I wonder what will happen with the old farmhouse and grave site behind Wildone?
20 years ago when I was there a Pepsi truck that went through the main entrance had issues navigating their full parking lot and jackknifed and stuck my aunt’s pickup while we were in the park. We came out to the truck at lunch time with Park management waiting for us and made us wait all day with them in the parking lot for Pepsi’s insurance people to arrive. They did not offer us replacement tickets until I mentioned if there is anything they can do for a day lost in the park. Pepsi’s insurance people did not come until an hour before closing.

I’m praying some park (cmon Knoebels) decides it’s worth the hassle of relocating, never been to SFA but this is the one ride I’m super bummed about missing. Batwing would be cool as the last Flying Dutchman (and my only one), but I honestly have a feeling I’d hate it unfortunately.

There is the SLIGHTEST chance I could get to the park in August when I visit one of my best friends in Philly. He’s an enthusiast too, so it’s really just a matter of whether or not he’s down to drive there.

They should relocate some of the rides and put them around National Harbor, maybe even inside the Gaylord. There's already a curfew and chaperone policy there so it should be pretty comparable. All joking aside, between this, the Commanders likely moving from up the road in a few years and the FBI not relocating to Greenbelt (along with other FED reductions), MD and PG County specifically are going to need to get creative real fast

Sure, but there wouldn't be any harm in relocating it, right?

None at all. But like I said, they're gonna make so much money from the sale they could be like "Screw it just throw it out!" rather than spending extra money dismantling, transporting and reassembling it someplace else within the chain. Also, a small flat ride with atrocious capacity like a NebulaZ would not significantly increase gate attendance at another park so it may not even be worth the relocation.

Don't think many people expected CGA to outlive SFA prior to today... Assuming this isn't also CGA's last season (it's not............. Right Six Flags????), in which case CGA will still close first.

I'm in Philly and I'll be driving down there. I'm not suggesting a carpool, just noting that it's only 2.5 hours by car and this will be the only year to make that trip before the opportunity is gone forever.

...Who's gonna be the one to say it?

It’s a shame I never realized just how close it was when I lived in South Jersey. Living 3 hours away from Carowinds as my home park has made me miss just how close everything was in NJ.

Is it possible SFA gets bought by Herschend or a similar company?😢
It does not appear so based on the info. released during the quarterly report but I can't say for sure but I say the odds are probably 95% against based on the currently available info.

I suspect the only way it's sold to another park operator is if there's some massive community effort to prevent the municipality from rezoning the property from its current land use.
SF would almost certainly demand major concessions from another theme park operator to not pillage guests from KD. I'm not even sure how that's possible outside of the park being really narrowed to a point they aren't really pulling guests away from KD - e.g. a small, local water park setup.

I'm sure they explored selling it off to something like EPR Properties and then trying to secure a contract to manage the park (ala Frontier City or Darien Lake). Maybe even shopped the park around a bit to other operators. Realistically, there's very few options left in the industry thanks to consolidation and other financial doom and gloom about the economy right now.

Six Flags management would probably value the park too high to sell it off as a working park with assets intact - likely on purpose because any company that comes into this property would begin competing directly with King's Dominion (and Dorney/Great Adventure) for the region.

Possible ride Relocations,
Harley Quinn Spinsanity- Six Flags Darien Lake
Steam Whirler - Six flags over Texas
Superman Ride of Steel - ride parts for Darien Lake
Wonder Woman Lasso of Truth - Michigans Adventure
The Wild One - Frontier City

I doubt they actually looked at selling the park to another operator. The land is worth way more rezoned than with a theme park on top of it.
The land is not that valuable for non theme park uses. There's no demand in that area for mixed use or other high intensity land uses that would generate high returns. The most likely use is for single family homes, but that's not a very desirable area for anything but lower to middle end housing.

The property's location just isn't great, and comparable nearby locations closer to metro and the beltway haven't grown a lot either.

Sad news. I always felt like Six Flags America had the “bones” of a great theme park. The entry area, the front plaza by the theater and antique cars, the little stream flowing by the kiddie area, the (newly redone) western area… there were some lovely elements to this park that never got fully utilized.

I think most people had a feeling this park’s days might have been numbered, though maybe not this numbered. While it might be true that the story could have been different if pre-merger SF had really taken care of and built up the park, the sad reality is that the land is probably too valuable for redevelopment regardless of how good the theme park on top of it is.

Selfishly, with KD being my home park, I’m a little relieved that the tension of KD and SFA competing in the same market has been resolved. That said, I really feel for the folks whose past or present home park is SFA, those who grew up with it and love its history, and those who were looking forward to a comeback with the recent improvements the park has been making. I would be sick to my stomach if I had gotten this news about my home park.

RIP Wild World.

The Nebulaz could fit any number of parks. SFNE's getting a steampunk-style coaster with Quantum Accelerator this season - if they refurb the Flashback (Boomerang) and remove the Balloon Race in front, it could fit right in - or in any of the spots below. (Ideally, they'd move Balloon Race next to Houdini).

How many SF parks have open spots right now for flat rides - it could just as easily slip into SFMM or Great Adventure!
