God I really hope wild one gets bought, I mean it’s survived multiple fires and a park closure and if it was at any busier park with some sort of maintenance budget I feel like it would be popular. I know it’s unrealistic but it would be marketable as the oldest operating coaster in America, which definitely matters in this era of repeated ride closures.

Although I was expecting this before the merger happened, it’s really sad to see a major park closing

could we see some flats move to other parks? I know GADV would appreciate it

so, why is six flags doing this and instead of selling the park to someone else like the owners who bought kennywood or merlin entertainment (Six Flags America could easily been converted to Legoland Maryland)

Merlin is even worse.
It is in deep crisis and they are selling and closing too.
My home park (Gardaland) is managed in a shameful way.

It's especially grueling given that this park SHOULD be wildly successful and it was only years of Six Flags mismanagement and neglect that has driven the property to its current state.
Not too familiar with SFA, but what kind of neglect and mismanagement was going on there?

They just never got the funding to invest in proper upkeep or new attractions for the park. Some areas looked nicer than others but most of the major rides were from the late 90’s-early 2000’s era of Six Flags, where they spent big on rides that aged poorly.

The park developed a horrible reputation with local audiences thanks to poor maintenance, non-existent upkeep, horrible downtime, awful operations, and consistent safety issues resulting from poor market positioning and lax safety standards. For years it has been a death spiral of neglect and reputation erosion.

I think the park was showing signs of life over the last few years with some nice improvements like the western area retheme, but it was going to take many years of that type of investment to restore the park to its rightful place in the DC metro area—and Six Flags clearly isn't interested in that long-term play in DC I guess.

Also not the most familiar with the park, but on a surface level, their last non relocated coaster was Batwing in 2001. The only other park in the chain with that streak is Michigan’s Adventure.

It's definitely doomed.

I don't expect Six Flags to save much of anything from the wrecking ball at SFA. Probably a few flats, probably the mouse, MAYBE the SLC—I'd be surprised to see anything else notable saved though to be honest. This is gonna be a bloodbath unless another park operator shows up.
Wild One, Batwing, Firebird just so much history sadly likely to hit the bulldozer. I am sad infuriated but unfortunately not shocked.
