RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

I love it!! I really don't care about load times, as long as it doesn't take an hour to load. But if it's only a small delay I'm fine with it.

Great idea, but also how will this carry on to threads created by others or apply to other threads or will this be limited to just restaurants, rides, etc?

Threads without a header image would automatically default back to the normal thread header (which has been visually updated as well and follows much of the same style as you see in the version linked last night). Though adding them is as simple as linking to an image (park icon, thread title, background gradient, etc are all generated automatically), adding then to a thread would be reserved to forum staff and restricted to the structured boards (rides, areas, restaurants, shows, etc).

It's also worth noting that, though what you see in the screenshot looks to be a rather small image, it's actually quite deceiving. Because everything has to scale when the forum is widened or the sidebar is clapposed, the image actually needs to be considerably larger than what you see there. Because if this, image file size is definitely something that I need to look into further.

Okay, I just felt that if you had this one large image at the top it might be a bit weird looking/distracting, but what you said sounds reassuring.

With that said I guess I'm all for it.

As of this afternoon, the system has been fully implemented.

And for a thread that doesn't have a header image...

Will this go along with the hopeful revitalization of the Park Fans wiki?

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

Technically it's already up- we're just waiting for the new version of Mediawiki to hit beta before we open it up to the masses. If we learned anything from the first time we had the wiki up, it's that no one wants to deal with formatting- hence, we're waiting for the visual editor.

I have to say, I really love the new thread headers.  Fantastic idea! :)

I must disagree with the choice to forgo an image header for the Site Updates & Changes thread, though. A panoramic image showing a frustrated Zachary staring angrily at a computer screen would certainly be fitting.

Except that Zach only works on the site in the nude, and nobody wants a giant image of that...

Like the header, not so keen on the new quick reply formatting options. /honesty

:p

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

I'm not so impressed with the quoting formatting. I find that it maybe more difficult to get rid of unwanted quotes in PMs and replying to posts.

If you liked seeing the tags then in the far right there is a white piece of paper and you can click that to see the tags such as
Code:

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

The biggest change to note this time around are the tweaks to the sidebar. In addition to that though, a ton of header images have been added to structured threads on the Busch Gardens Williamsburg side and a few have popped up on the Kings Dominion side as well.

Also, an opt-in beta for all past and current donors (anyone with a badge- whether it's out of date or not) will hopefully be coming relatively soon. Keep an eye on the donor forum for that. While I'm speaking of donors, all out of date badges (a year+ old) will be pulled when the new theme goes live- this is something that has been long overdue but, as we concluded via public discussion a month or two ago, it's something that needs to be done and it's something that the community in general all seemed to have zero problem with.

In addition to this, along with the new theme, a restructured donor system will also be unveiled. Anyone with an active donation (less than a year old) when the new theme goes live will be ported over to the equivalent tier on the new system. More information about that will be posted to the donor forum as the time approaches.

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

I'm not seeing any changes, may be my web browser or my operating system.

Ubuntu 12.04 running Google Chrome [font=Ubuntu, Arial, sans-serif]Version 32.0.1700.102[/font]

EDITED: Sorry not true I am seeing the new reply box features, but none of the page stuff.

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

Nah, don't worry, you're not missing anything, it's not public yet- the new theme is still in active development- simply showing progress shots. :)

I'm going to suggest to those that use the home icon to refresh the page to begin training yourselves to click the refresh button on your browser. Clicking "The ParkFans Forum" located to the right of the house icon works just the same. Unless you are already on the forum home page, then you would need to click the refresh button on your browser.

Change is up in the air... ;)
I just would like to remind everyone about this real quick. I added a bit more to that quote than how it is previously found earlier in this thread.
