RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

I'll have to look into it, I know it has a minimum character requirement of 3.

Also, I like the "First Name Club" and anyone is welcome in it. That is why we didn't disable the username change feature entirely.

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

Well, there goes my "Dr. Felix Freakenstein" username for Howl-O-Scream. :p At least I squeaked by the minimum character number for my current username like a ninja!

Limiting the length of a username is also a very good move. I meant to bring it up a while ago. It was particularly bothersome when a long username was listed in a search, it totally threw off the format.

I think you admin types should take this to private at this time.

Agreed. Thanks for the legitimate input to those who provided it (especially Nic and Alpenghost- both of you provided extremely helpful things for us to think about). Anyway, we'll refine our ideas a bit and get back to you all.

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

I'm going to suggest to those that use the home icon to refresh the page to begin training yourselves to click the refresh button on your browser.

Change is up in the air... ;)

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

I notice the right hand side buttons that correlate with the View drop down disappeared. Is this related? Regardless, one wonders why they are gone.

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

They should still be there... Screenshot?

Also, when in doubt, hold ctrl and hit refresh.

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

They've been missing for me since last night. If I still don't see them tomorrow, I'll get y'all a screenshot. I'm too mentally exhausted from work today to deal with it right now.

Edit: OK, so curiosity overcame sloth and I got out of bed to look at the site on my PC. It seems that the Quick Links are only missing on my iPad ( I am NOT viewing the mobile site). They are still there on my laptop.

So, that is two things I can't see on my iPad: Embedded videos and the Quick Links. I am not an Apple person, so this could be entirely operator error.

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

Nic, I've noticed the same problems. I would assume it has something to do with the fact that the full version of the site is not optimized for mobile devices. I'm not a huge fan of the mobile version, so I often find myself unable to do certain things when I use the full version, too.

I already clicked "grow." I actually keep it expanded. I double-checked, after I tested the problem on my PC.

Honestly this is really just an annoyance, easily solved by my getting my laptop. The iPad is just more convenient around the house. (And this is why I will NEVER get rid of my PC at home.)

If you're not seeing the sidebar at all, this arrow is your answer:

Aha. I see it. I will try tonight. (No mobile devices allowed in my office.)

Edit: it worked! Thanks!

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

Question...

I could have sworn I used to be able to upload/attach images directly in a Private Message (not linking). Was that the case? Has something changed? In any event, can we add this feature (back?) into PM's?

Thanks,

CK

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

Nope, never existed. :p Here's the thing: Attachments take up a massive chunk of of our server- both in size and bandwidth use. We can sorta justify the space they take up when attachments are publically viewable, but if we let users attach files to PMs that are just going to be viewed once or twice by only a very few people, it would get out of control very quickly. I'd recommend using something like Dropbox- it's free, it doesn't weigh down the PFN server, and it works great for such things.

2014 will be a good year. Thanks for hanging in there everyone- keep that discussion flowing. :)

Make no mistake, there's still a metric ton of work to be done but I was told I should show some evidence that something is happening behind the scenes.

For the record, the park icons colorize/desaturate based on whether or not there are new posts for said park.
