RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

Anyone who leaves a negative comment with positive rep is just being a moron. No one reads the comments other than the person who is receiving the reputation. All everyone else sees is the number which the person is increasing.

It gives people who aren't familiar with the community a crowdsourced guideline as to who can be trusted.

Hence why negative rep should be allowed - so that those not familiar with the community can get a fully accurate picture of who can be trusted and whose information is considered valuable.

RE: The ParkFans Network: Site Updates & Changes

This exactly. A terrible user who trolls the community should not give newcomers the illusion of their being a quality member. For instance, every user I ever neutral repped is now banned, no doubt for trolling or disrupting the community. The rep is much more accurate with the ability to weigh all the options; so a terrible user can't troll the community and make it seem like they have some sort of authority to do so.

There could always be rules that you have to be nice to people no matter what.
I do not think that is a necessary rule so long as you make it clear that your posts are not meant to be insulting.

I would agree with Bill however, unfortunately, it was subject to rampid abuse and incited what was, essentially, gang warfare.

...but isn't a massive wave of positive rep by people all buddy-buddy with a violator the same as a massive wave of negative rep by those who dislike such a violator? It's the exact same issue that was/is faced with Cody and his minions: people trolled (or may still be trolling) the forums and got away with it by using this "no feelings hurt" method which ends up making things more tense in the long run.

You're not wrong. It's just a tough issue- one that has been debated and addressed in countless different ways since the site started.

People are going to find ways to abuse any rep system. If a crowd-sourced user rating system is the ultimate goal, then it has to be balanced. Bill said it before, protecting assholes shouldn't be the goal.

I think both sides make very valid points. I think the real problem is that *some*(not naming any names) people are trying to get the negative and neutral rep put back in place, simply because they want to abuse it. They want to feel like they have some type of authority over people, and it gets to the point everytime that one person ends up bullying everyone else, whether they deserve it or not, through the rep system.

People will always find way to abuse the system. Is it really something that is worth the trouble and hassle? If it really is such an issue. It seems most new members have consistently watched the forums months prior and already have a feel for who is trustful and who isn't.

That's cool, but why is my avatar different on two different devices? On my desktop it's still the Illuminights frog but on my phone the change to a Singing Mushroom has gone through.
