I wouldn't worry, they're not going to do that.

If this was the old Kings Dominion, I'd worry about the aesthetics of what will replace it, but I believe whenever and whatever they replace it with that it will fit in well with Candy Apple Grove and the surroundings.

Well just heard from an employee at the top of the observation deck that Shockwave is on its way out and in her words "they're supposedly putting in one of those slingshots."

Not exactly the most credible source but it makes sense. Other Togo stand ups in the chain have been taken out, and the slingshots seem to be a rising trend amoung Cedar Fair parks.

Let's see what happens...

^ This is definitely going around through many of the employees - I heard the same today. As I said in the 2016 thread, I could totally see this happening, but we shall see.

For what it's worth, SkyRider at Wonderland was announced for removal towards the end of July/1st of August if I remember correctly and closed on September 1st (Labor Day). However, it was being sold/relocated so there was an agreement on time of disassembly.

If it is indeed on its way out, I see no reason for KD to not put it up for sale unless Sky Rider was in much better condition than Shockwave. I rode Sky Rider on our trip to Canada's Wonderland in Sept 2012 and it seemed exactly the same as Shockwave, just not shaded by the trees. Not that that really gives any indication of it's condition.

^ I've been checking the coaster-listing websites to see if Shockwave has been listed for sale but haven't seen anything yet. However, I'm almost certain that SkyRider was never listed and was sold directly so I'm sure Shockwave could do the same if Cedar Fair wanted.

Anybody remember when Hypersonic XLC was for sale? Ah, memories.

SAVE SHOCKWAVE. I've ridden this dreadful coaster for over 20 years. The worst coaster in the Eastern USA needs preservation, doesn't it?

I love my KD rides, but this rinky dink coaster won't be missed by me. Replacing it with only a slingshot would be pretty disappointing. KD needs one or two more 'big' rides. More small coasters wouldn't help much. A large adventure water ride or large footprint coaster would be welcomed by me. Down with ToGo!

No way they only replace it with a SlingShot, so you don't have to worry about that. They only take up about the same amount of space as Americana so the park will be able to fit that anywhere (preferably in Candy Apple Grove). If Shockwave does get removed this season, we could see an empty site for a year (like Wonderland's SkyRider) if what's replacing it is the next large investment.

I'm starting to get more of a feeling that a flat and Slingshot are coming for 2016, with the next coaster in 2017.

RE: Shockwave to Close Forever on August 9th

This announcement has me in tears... of happiness!

Although the ride looked beautiful and was the perfect sized (and colored) centerpiece for Candy Apple Grove, it isn't a good ride compared to everything else in the park (yeah even you Hurler). I get to the park about 8 times a season and ride Shockwave once a season - if that. I'm excited for what the future holds as the possibilities in that area of the park are endless!

One month from today we will be saying our goodbyes. I plan on riding a few times before then and be there on August 9th to pay my respects to a ride I grew up with, but at the end of the day this is a happy goodbye! This is a very smart move for Kings Dominion and Cedar Fair.

This opens up a ton of land for 2016/2017 - I'm quite excited.

RE: Shockwave to Close Forever on August 9th

Holy shit!

This announcement has caught me so off-guard. I'm honestly shocked right now.

I have mixed feelings about this. It will be hard to get used to seeing Candy Apple Grove without the coaster and its iconic loop as the area's centerpiece. Shockwave is a unique coaster, and although I may be in the minority, I enjoyed riding it. This will mark the closing of the last ride of its kind in North America.

With that said, I look forward to seeing what is in store for 2016. For a while I had thought that there would not be a Project 2016. With Shockwave biting the dust, lots of room is open for new attractions. This is exciting.

I did plug in the dimensions and a Disk'O Coaster would fit nicely in Shockwave's space, with room for a few other flats as well. Maybe KD will get a flat ride package like Cedar Point, Knott's, Valleyfaire, etc.

Interesting things are happening in Candy Apple Grove...
