Sesame Street Forest of Fun

If I recall, Griffon has a few unused awnings that could be taken down and moved to Forest of Fun. The line rarely ever gets long enough to warrant opening up the overflow area outside of the first few switchbacks anyway.

Yeah the park realized they weren't used often so they were relocated to Bistro 205's patio back when they were using the bistro as a full-service restaurant. I believe they were still there during the Food & Wine Festival as well.

In regards to Kings Dominion, I haven't been there because of the constant bad reviews I keep hearing. The most common complaints is there isn't a lot of shade mainly it is a parking lot park, the place is typically littered with trash on the pathways frequently, and the staff is overall rude. I do want to visit and form my own honest opinion of the park, but really why would I visit a place with a negative reputation that was only just recently starting to change. As the park is celebrating it's history recently and working on many renovation and quality projects, it's seemingly sounding better than what I have heard. It is making more and more inclined to visit, but I still don't get a good feeling about it.

In that case, all in favor of moving the unused awnings that are covering up a seating area for an abandoned restaurant to an unshaded, hot place that gets crazy crowds practically all the time say aye!

I have only been hearing bad things, some I do believe are over exaggerations, however a bad review is a bad review and it deters people including myself, especially when you hear mostly bad things and an occasional good thing.

So, to summarize.  When the same people with whom argue daily about BGW tell you KD is bad, you assume they are right, without verification?  They are wrong about BGW, but right about KD?

No, I am referring to other general public people. I have been to BGW, I've made my own opinions. I haven't been to KD so I can only go off on what other people describe. But the thing is, it hasn't been just people on this site, but people out in public as well, close friends who I did't expect to know quality, strangers even. I'm not just focusing on one group of people, I take in account everyone.

That is fair, I suppose.  I still wouldn't judge something without experiencing it for myself.

Yeah, I try to keep an open mind about things. That is why visiting KD is still something I'd want to do just to judge it for myself.

I can definitely see what Matt C is talking about. Took my niece there and it's much easier to keep track of kids at Forest of Fun than Land of the Dragons. I'd love more shade but Forest of Fun is a hit with most guests with young children. I think they could at least put up some angled awnings over the short walls that all the parents sit on.

Thanks for the great information about FoF from everybody! I'm looking forward to introducing my 3yr old Daughter to BGW this year and it sounds like a perfect fun spot for her. 'Letting her loose' somewhere seems intimidating to me but we'll see. I certainly would NEVER do that at Planet Snoopy. Is there only 1 way in and 1 way out of FoF? BTW...I'd be happy to introduce you to KD PR! I've been visiting since I was 2 (1978). It would probably just turn into a boring history lesson though

Yes, one entrance to the area. There's a little foam area with tunnels and stuff the kids run around and play in. On that you can pretty much stay on one side and keep moving side to side to follow your kid. The water play area is open as well and there's a short wall to sit on to take a break and watch from there. It gets a little hectic when the characters come on on the stage to do their show.

Yeah, I'm not a parent that just lets their kid loose, I have to be able to see her at all times. Pandorazboxx is right on, but I'd like to add for the big water area make sure you bring a bathing suit and a towel for her, you probably won't be able to get out without her playing once she sees it.

I myself wouldn't be so critical of Forest of Fun if I hadn't seen how amazing Safari of Fun is at BGT. Now I realize and understand that BGT reused some structures from their version of Land of the Dragons, but they also built a lot of new structures and the entire land looks absolutely amazing. They built "real" buildings instead of the cut outs and the themeing in the whole section is totally top notch. Safari of Fun came after Forest of Fun and I know BEC used a different company to  design Safari from Forest.

I feel like the argument against the lack of trees is unjust. All the trees that where there before FOF were planted when the petting zoo was built. So why would they plan everything around old landscaping of a defunct attraction? I get that it's FOREST of Fun, but if you go on Google Earth and flash back and forth in time you'll see the trees that were there are now in the place of rides, buildings, big play areas. My point is I just don't see how they could have avoided cutting trees down.

Coming from the parental view point, I love the FOF. I can let my son run free and explore without being right up on him as I would when he is in the LOTD. He also enjoys FOF better than LOTD. I love that FOF only has 1 entrance, as I do wish LOTD was the same. It would give parents a more peace of mind.
There is shade, not a lot, but there is shade over at the FOF. Over by the bathrooms. SHADE IS SHADE!

LOTD does only have one Entrance, other than going up 50 steps, and through Der Wilkommenhaus, there's only one way in and out.

But I think that parents are really starting to falsely think that LOTD, including the tree house, and climbing structures were made for toddlers. However, that assumption is really not the case. Yes The Brook and all the rides are toddler friendly, but the tree house is best utilized by kids 4+ who are able to go off on their own. If your kid needs assistance walking around the tree-house, FOF is probably the better place to go. However if you can let your kid go off on their own, without you having to follow them, LOTD is definitely the better choice.
