RE: Rumor - SEAS Parks Broken Up and Sold Off

I really hope they don't spilt the parks up. I would hate to lose the Florida parks from my platinum pass. My wife and I love going to BGT and seaworld. I hope they are all kept together.

That being said, I would not mind universal buying ALL the parks together.

Is there any reason to believe this could actually happen? Has anyone heard anything to support this?

I mean.... Are you asking for reasons outside of the fact that the stock has tanked, the company is running out of money, losing cash flow, attendance falling, etc etc? If so, I believe it's because Uni would like to control FL, and from past rumors, they'd like to be in Va.

Honestly, I have gone in street view in Universal, I'd prefer Herschend 1000000000000000x times over universal.

EDIT: Universal maybe aint so bad. But still prefer Herschend.

I'd rather have Universal own the park. As David said, they have more cashflow to work with.

Universal has amazing theming. But unlike two of Herschend's major parks (Dollywood & SDC), Florida has absolutely no terrain to build into or work on unless they terrafrom, which would be crazy expensive to do. Also, the parks are pretty massive so I'm glad they are flat. Walking around a hilly theme park in the Florida sun doesn't sound like my idea of fun!

I didn't really mean like that. I know why the parks need to be sold. I was trying to understand if there is any evidence universal is actually contemplating this. Are there any actual signs this could happen, aside from the dire position SEAS is currently in.

RE: Rumor - SEAS Parks Broken Up and Sold Off

That is a valid point, but i would think the parks would be treated similarly to the universal parks. Personally i think think this purchase would be the best possible outcome for the seas chain. I think it is the only way all the parks can stay together for the long term.

RE: Rumor - SEAS Parks Broken Up and Sold Off

Thanks Bill for making that distinction. This is how I understand the situation:

Possible Buyers

- Comcast

By the discussion taking place, it appears most likely Comcast will buy the entire chain. They will be able to provide a lot more funding for projects and from previous experience (controlling Universal) they will focus on better theming throughout the parks and better landscaping. Essentially, the chain as a whole will likely to improve greatly.

- Herschend Family Entertainment

So it sounds they only want BGW/WCW. If so, we are likely not to see too many changes immediately. We will probably see some changes to embrace the previous Old Country theme. We will possibly loose our most major event, Howl-o-Scream, and alcohol as well which will could lead to a noticeable drop in attendance and/or profits.

- Six Flags

This option is by far the least likely, as they don't seem to have the money to blow. If however they do, the park will turn more into a generic amusement park and loose a lot of theming over many years.

This is just how I interpreted the information, someone please help me if I am off in my understanding.

Once again Six Flags is not even on the table, stop bringing them up. Cedar Fair and China are more likely options than Six Flags in this rumor, BTT just added them cause they looked at BGW a while ago. Nothing came of that, nothing will.

RE: Rumor - SEAS Parks Broken Up and Sold Off

I'd take Herschend off the table just because of the nature of the park and the park will not succeed without alcohol sales. It's in it's history and HOS is an extremely popular event. Any attempt to undo these dynamics or change them would all but destroy the parks in the eyes of the frequent guest. All the changes are already vastly unpopular. Whoever buys it needs to have finesse about how they implement whatever changes they will make.

The only people who are even remotely on the table I want touching the parks is comcast. I'm almost positive we would see some MAJOR changes in BGW, but I certainly believe they would be the best ones to implement them.

Petition for ParkFans to buy the park. I mean, you guys have the money from those ads, right?

We all understand the distinction is Comcast buying, not Uni. What I think most people here are looking at, is the fact that Comcast has proven through the Uni Parks that they know how to properly fund and maintain parks. Regardless of what they say as to leaving current SEAS management in place, you better believe they will take practices done at Uni and implement them at SEAS. IMO, THATS what a lot of people here are wanting to see. I'd rather them leave the BG branding in place, as I feel they can extend some of their own IP through it just fine. It's all just as guessing game as to what would happen.

RE: Rumor - SEAS Parks Broken Up and Sold Off

I don't think Herschend will drop HOS altogether. Just because Dollywood and Silver Dollar City don't have an established haunt doesn't mean the company will drop it altogether. Everything will most likely stay the same under Herschend with a few management and policy changes here and there.

I know Wild Adventures does a haunt event and they're owned by Hershcend.

They even did a darker Halloween event that took place in one of the swamps near the park a few years back. Not sure if they still do this.

Park doesn't serve alcohol though.

Darien Lake also held a Halloween event for a while under SF and well under split management with Herschend up until about last year. I haven't seen any info about it this year (seems it wasn't really raking in the money they anticipated despite Great Escape, La Ronde, Canada's Wonderland, and Sylvan Beach still pulling out full blown haunts - competition is probably a bit too fierce).

Darien Lake is allowed to keep their alcohol license as well. Perhaps the company will allow Busch to keep theirs because of the history and the name.

RE: Rumor - SEAS Parks Broken Up and Sold Off

^Great point. I don't feel that the lack of Halloween at those two parks is really about any ideology. I think it's more about demographics more than anything.

The Busch Gardens brand has been through quite the few owners in such a short time already, first Anheuser Busch, then In-Bev, then Blackstone, then SeaWorld Corporate. All that within five years alone. In that time, the park's logo and image has changed once.

I think the name itself could use a change. People relate Busch Gardens back to the Old Country and back to the AB days still to this day. Even with all the marketing trying to change things. I think a name brand image will help show people things are different and expect good changes.

Also, Disney Gardens anyone?
