That was not there yesterday. I'm glad they decided to add it!

The San Marco changes really do look fantastic -- for those who have seen them, would it be overstating the case to say they exceed expectations, especially the restaurant, or am I being too fangirl -y ??:)

I now remember Franz Kitenko telling me about some plans/ideas for this place (Marco Polo theme, lamb,Mongolian grill) during Howl-O-Scream 2014. That shows that many plans that came into fruition have been pretty concrete for some time.

The restaurant itself looks fantastic. I haven't eaten at Marco Polo's Marketplace, but from a thematic and aesthetic perspective, it is a perfect fit for San Marco and Busch Gardens as a whole. It reminds me of the type of quality from the olden days of BGW.

The bathrooms are also awesome. Not too many places have themed bathrooms, and the mosaic and stone work in the restrooms actually makes them beautiful. (Yes, beautiful bathrooms.) And the Dyson Airtaps, with their unholy sink/dryer hybrids, are out-of-this-world cool. That's right, I just wrote a paragraph raving about bathrooms.

However, I don't like the rainbow colors on the buildings between Il Teatro and Da Vinci's Garden. I think they are even more gaudy in person, and they stuck out like a sore thumb. Walking through the area, the bright colors did not feel right in contrast to the more earthy color scheme of the surrounding area.

Worst of all, the new soundtrack really cast a negative light on the otherwise wonderful renovations of the restaurant and restrooms. The operatic/big band/contemporary Italian music does not belong in San Marco.

But overall, yes, I think the area looks great! Especially in the plaza area, the changes look great. Very impressed.

Popping in to sing the praises of the new restaurant. Stopped by today and everything was fresh and delicious not to mention the building itself looks gorgeous inside and out. Some issues with wait times for food, particularly at the panini/pizza station, but I'm willing to chalk that up to them getting used to the new systems. Having an employee throttling inflow at entrance was a good idea. Two thumbs up, looking forward to coming back and trying some of the Asian stuff.

Ate here yesterday with my dad and overall I am pleased. Few notes-
  • As everyone else has said, restaurant is beautiful
  • I had the Orange Chicken and my dad had the Mongolian Chicken, both were excellent and even though we were eating at dinner time on a crazy day, we pretty much walked right up to get our food.
  • The water cup fiasco isn't entirely over, I got sent to about three different places just to get a water cup. This is mostly a training issue though as the cashiers were obviously still being trained.
  • While eating, I turned to my dad and asked, "what the hell is that howling noise?". We then realized it was the music they were playing in the walkway. The sound DID NOT carry well into the seating area and it sounded almost like HOS background noise. It was really weird.

A thread in the Eateries sub-forum has been created for Marco Polo's Marketplace. Please continue discussion of the restaurant there.

Thanks!

RE: Marco Polo's Marketplace & San Marco Changes

Saw the new area for the first time yesterday. The area seems much more lively with all the bright colors, which kinda threw me off because San Marco is meant to feel more laid back (at least it gave off that vibe in years past).

Music reflects the whole lively town feel. I was actually reminded of Starlight Orchestra walling through the area and hearing the music. It didn't really bother me in the slightest compared to the Star Spangled music in the past.

The marketplace as a whole looks great. Wasn't able to go inside due to time constraints but from the pathway it looked amazing.

Overall I don't really mind the changes. I'm hoping the bright colors have some time to fade a little though. Its a bit of sensory overload walking into the area.

The bathrooms look really nice! Had a chance to try them out yesterday. Though, I can never seem to get those air dryers attached to the faucet to work for me!

One thing that I don't like about the dryers, is that you have to hold your hands too close to the sensors for them to work. Like the other Dyson dryers, it nearly defeats the purpose of "better hygiene" to me.
