RE: Marco Polo's Marketplace & San Marco Changes

Isn't there a law about water availability at a dining establishment?

I went in today for the first time. It was fairly empty, but I also imagined a mid summer crowd in there being chaotic. I was pleased to see Chinese food in there. The lo mein looked really really strange, but the rice and meats looked delicious. The register setup looked to be quite spacious for handling crowds. Overall, I really liked the fresh feel of this place and I look forward to trying some of the food next visit.

We had that problem at Universal at one point. Ended up finding one around the corner from the restaurant. It seems simple enough to have a water dispenser with the soda machines since I assume it has to mix the water anyways.

Soda doesn't mix with water, but lemonade and fruit punch do... so if the fountains have any sort of uncarbonated drinks, it should have water.

It's a little more complex then that. In short yes it should have a water line but there are also legit things that could contribute to it not being there. This ties in well with the subject that I chose for the next post I am writing for my concession thread so if you want a more detailed explanation keep a eye out cause I will be posting that in the next day or two.

RE: Marco Polo's Marketplace & San Marco Changes

I was in the park today and tried the place out here are my thoughts.

First the positives. I had the lamb and pleasantly surprised in its quality. I was kind of nervous getting it as cheaper lamb usually tends to be tougher and fattier but the quality and taste of it was both really good and there was little fat at all. The dipping sauce that came with the meat was also spot on as was the pita bread. I also had a side salad that was really nice and was a different type then what I had see else where in the park.

Now for the negatives to it. The place was pretty badly under staffed but that seemed to be a trend through out the park. It also packed with people and it was hard to tell what line was for what with people accidentally cutting in line just because no one really knew where it was. The meal side to the food was my meal should have had vegetables with it but they ran out so the woman working the counter doubled down on my serving of potatoes. I wasn't offered anything else other than a double helping and when I asked and said I was willing to wait I was told she didn't know how long it would be and that she couldn't hold up the line on me waiting. The potatoes that I had been given seemed hard and under cooked to me. When I finished eating and was leaving I noticed that the line to get unto the building was almost back into da Vinci Garden.

I think that staffing is an issue at the moment hopefully as the season goes on they will get more trained staff in there and the quality will go up and the wait time down. On that note one final point that is both positive and negative the price point for the food is to low at the moment. If they up the price point and remove the meal vouchers from there or charge a premium voucher fee for ones at that location they should remove some demand and also make a higher profit to help pay for more staff.

I am also a little upset that they waited this late to open it. This weekend gave them a perfect all be it costly opportunity to trey to work out the kinks in the operation with NO crowds. By choosing to open it during a busy time they are trying to learn how to run it while it's packed and while I do understand that opening it with the crowds that they had this weekend would have been a giant profit shrink I think it was a short sided call that bis hurting them in the long term.

I was also there today and agree with horseboy. My experience with the lamb was a little worse as I must've seen the lady change her gloves 5 times for one lady's order (1 beef, 2 lamb). Extremely slow. The attendant told us to get our Italian food first and then hit the other stations since they had little to no lines. My wife went to grab spring rolls and a side of noodles from the Asia line and I waited for my lamb pita. Our kids nuggets and pasta were cold by the time my lamb and the noodles were ready.

I think they probably have less staff, before schools let out?

Culinary was actually having some issues trying to get spring break workers. They had to hold a culinary job fair a couple weeks ago, which is typically only done when they haven't hired as many employees as desired. The park seemed to also be pushing out the general message for employees who could work during these three weeks earlier this off-season. We may be experiencing continual staffing issues these next two weeks, especially during the weekdays.

RE: Marco Polo's Marketplace & San Marco Changes

I went on the 22nd for my 21st birthday and it was their soft opening, from what I gathered. Very little people there and quick service. The workers seemed eager to talk about how much they liked the new restaraunt over the old one. Since I no longer do and don't plan to go back, I use to work at that restaraunt and morale was very LOW but now, people seemed genuinely happy to be there. I had the lamb (as apparently most people did) and the vegetables were excellently flavored, as I normally hate squash but I LOVED it. The lamb was just right and the potatoes were also very good. I had myself a cannoli which was also very good. Not too sweet, but sweet enough. I topped it all off with an angry orchard and I was in heaven. In my opinion one of the best dining experiences I had in the park. ((Haven't done any special event dining experiences)) and I look forward to going again, maybe after spring break.

I was at the park today and I had the amazing pleasure of eating at Marco Polo's Marketplace, and let me first congratulate the park and the construction team on a beautiful job. The place really looks amazing, and the food is fantastic also. The only qualm that I had was the brick oven pizza (being that it's pizza and a natural go to for many new park visitors) took a very long time to make, causing a cluster of people surrounding that station. Despite that, the pizza was delicious and I know as the season goes on that the issue will be addressed.

The lady who was in the restaurant kind of answering everyone's questions on pass member preview day came over to talk to me about the rotunda, actually. She made note that they kept the exact same paint job with the doves and birds flying upward, but decided there needed to be a larger, grander centerpiece in the area. Hence, the awesome chandelier was put in.

Somewhere I have photos of those dove paintings. That's about the only sentimentality I have for Ristorante, as far as interior.

Edit: Here is a new album that I posted on Flickr with photos of Ristorante Della Piazza.
