RE: Marco Polo's Marketplace & San Marco Changes

They play more upbeat music In a country when an attraction is opening.

I expect it to be gone next season or earlier.

SeaWorld Orlando's Mediterranean-themed waterfront area recently received an unnecessarily technicolor makeover as well, along with a new soundtrack... I'm hoping it's not a new direction company-wide.

EDIT: Just catching up on threads and saw the rendering of Griffon Gifts' makeover.  Hmmm...

With former music director, Gary Lensenmayer having been layed off; the parks probably have a new person(s) choosing music. We will probably continue to see this as a trend in other hamlets, as they are updated.

The music that Haberdasher mentioned from SeaWorld's Waterfront was composed and/or arranged by Gary Lensenmayer. That also includes most original songs dating back to the early years of Italy. He would have been in charge of all in-park licensed tracks as well.

To be a bit more... negative... there was one change to San Marco that was NOT welcome. It seems San Marco was sporting a new soundtrack today. And it was HORRIBLE.

The soundtrack switched between contemporary Italian songs to loud 1930's "big band"-style Italian songs, and both genres featured vocals. Both were simply awful. The modern Italian songs clearly clashed with the classical beauty of San Marco, but the big band music was nearly as big an offender. Even though it's relatively old music, the 1930's-sounding songs certainly felt out of place with the theme of a classical Italian garden. The songs were just loud, unfitting, and annoying.

The music made me want to sprint out of San Marco, put Band-Aids on my bleeding ears, and pray for the return of the far-superior Star Spangled Nights soundtrack.

Seriously, though- bring back the classical music. The new soundtrack was actually so annoying that it detracted from the classiness of Marco Polo's Marketplace. And that place is far too awesome to have to suffer from something so silly as a poorly-chosen soundtrack.

I'm really less than thrilled about the music changes in areas where work has been done in recent years (outside the Globe Theater and now at the Marketplace in particular). Every time I stroll through the Heatherdowns I can't help but think to myself, "Well, its only a matter of time before they replace the bagpipes that I have heard for the last 32 years and replace it with some Scottish pop music." That said I thought the theming in the new Marketplace was great and that they did a good job of a reclaiming an awkwardly sized space outside the restrooms that had previously seemed a little to small to be used for much of anything and at the same time a little too large to just be considered a walkway.

Here's a really good video of the restaurant

The restaurant reminds me of some of the cafeterias I've in the museums along the national mall in D.C. though my favorite touch was the use of the pottery bowls as dispensers

It's beautiful.  I just hope that, once up and running, it's not as chaotic as its counterpart in BGT's Pantopia: during peak hours, it's a bunch of meandering people with trays full of food not knowing what window they want to go to next - think bumper cars. Also, once they started offering more options there, the quality of the product went down IMHO - quantity over quality.

Yes, this layout offers more options, but if there's one thing Busch (and for that matter, Seagrams w/ UO's USF & IOA) knew when they designed their parks, it was how to crank out food efficiently to sell more alcohol - that's why both companies feature(d) cafeteria-style queues...

(On the upside, we can hear all of the old BGW music on International Street at KD.)

RE: Marco Polo's Marketplace & San Marco Changes

I really hope the park goes back on the decision to change the soundtrack. Of all the major changes in the park, this was probably the only one that I was largely dissatisfied with. I would even be okay with it if they kept it around the Il Teatro area only, like when they had a similar soundtrack playing in the area for when Mix It Up debuted through 2014. However, allowing this music to go into the Da Vinci's Garden area is just unacceptable. It really detracts from the atmosphere in that area more than anything else. I would be perfectly fine if they changed the soundtrack, but kept the same classical, instrumental genre. The loud, lyrical music just has no place in Da Vinci's Gardens.

Also, when comparing this to the Waterfront issue at SWO, I wouldn't consider it nearly as bad. The waterfront has American Pop music playing when it previously had a totally custom soundtrack just to play in that area. At least this soundtrack is somewhat thematically appropriate, despite not fitting the area at all.

I'm excited that the chicken pesto sandwich is there! It was my favorite item at Christmastown this past year. I'm going to eat there next week for sure, though I will try the lamb I think.

Well apparently there are no water despencers there....NO WHERE. Not even on the coke machines. An employee suggested I go over to the chalotto place to fill my cup...or just buy bottled water. I would have been livid if I had a whole tray of food and had to pay for everything there...and then go walk across the busy path way with tray of food and stand in another line and wait for water. I truly hope they rethink that.

Also, it wasn't that busy today but lines started forming for different stations and people kept asking which line is for what. On a truly busy day I can see it becoming a zoo....hopefully they have a plan for that.
