RE: Project 2018: Rebirth of Hurler

What I saw today was missing supports, a big hole, between the top of the 2nd and 3rd hills (fairly sure) of the backstretch, and another hole between the exit of the turn going through the structure down to the entrance of the final turn, which has track removed from the supports, the higher curve does not yet. With parallel sections removed, the path could do a cross, but then it would need another change to match. More likely, a larger hill will go between the 2 hill crests (double-up and double-down would be nice), or an inversion. Perhaps the inversion on the inner spot.

Anyone they will remove the station? That thing is an eyesore beyond belief.

The station itself is fairly spacious. I would think they could redress the outside to make it look better and clean up the inside.

Unlike the new InvadR station. That thing is the definition of small. XP

They don't need a station that big. They need to use it as a tunnel maybe and build a new station on the Hypersonic site.

The first RMC in our region is going to need a station that big. I always loved the extra spacious feel of hurlers station, even though it's ugly as hell from every exterior angle. Don't kid yourself, this ride is going to be VERY popular.

RE: Project 2018: Rebirth of Hurler

Correction, addendum on the backstretch: BOTH spots between the 2 hills are torn apart, I'd guess one will go higher than before, one lower. As to the missing track coming out of the station, guess they could extend that with trick track especially if the first curve (whatever it becomes) is moved. Or it could be a launched shuttle layout with the original drop on the other end? ;)

As to the building, yeah it is huge and a big box, but I'd rather them spend money on the coaster and I'd also like to see a different entrance. The path through the coaster was very cool, except you've got to walk so far to even get to its start the combo doesn't go together. Hypersonic's station looks better, but that would only work for launched since it's totally in the wrong place otherwise, and it was always in an awkward spot in the first place. They could make a hell of haunted house out of the old Hurler station though!

They also need to create room for an actual queue. I hope Cedar Fair will do a decent job with the theming as they'be been doing with their recent rides.

Because it is so spacious, it unlike many of its brothers and sisters in the park provides a great deal of shade for guests. When it first opened there were also other cover as well as coke machines and other vendors mid line.

That doesn't excuse it for being so ugly.

It's original theme did excuse it. The building was themed to be a soundstage, and themed rather well. The interior had production lights and equipment, as well as set pieces representing the doll factory from WW2. The outside was bare metal, with a large Paramount Studios logo and sound stage number. Combined with the rest of the rather well themed Wayne's World area (down to the Aurora, IL manhole covers!) it was a great addition to a park with aspirations to be another Universal Studios. Unfortunately, with the loss of all of the other theming, I have to agree that it is not exactly an attractive structure. Perhaps they could use the large size of it to do a flythrough, similar to Thunderhead at Dollywood?

Fixed it for you. :D

RE: Project 2018: Rebirth of Hurler

I'm sorry. What is your objection to how the Wayne's World area was themed, when it opened?

It was a very popular movie, and I recall thinking the area was really cool and cohesive, and had more "energy" (for lack of a better word) than other sections.

I specifically recall thinking it captured the feel of the movie, and to a lesser extent the SNL skits, very well.

RE: Project 2018: Rebirth of Hurler

You are right Nicole. The whole area really captured the feel of the movie up until the millennium, when theming started vanishing. By 2006 it was completely gone, but lost its prime way before that. I'm sure madmax's memory of the late 90's theming is extensive.

RE: Project 2018: Rebirth of Hurler

I don't care so much about the station as I do the theming in and around it. I'm going to be be pissed if we get a generic name whose "theme" consists of nothing but a logo, like Dominator or Fury 325. The 50's themed area offers so much potential, so I really hope Project 2018 capitalizes on that with a solid theme.

As I've said before, some fresh paint, new signs, and an updated soundtrack could provide a "new" themed area to be marketed right alongside the new coaster.

Theming anything to such a crappy movie is laughable and lame.

Fury 325 has decent theming.
