Rhinefeld (Germany)

I'm pretty sure they used to be simple wooden shingles which are still used widely around the entire park in Killarney, Banbury, and Rhinefeld. They still replace shingles thematically in the core of each village. Tile, slate, wood, etc.

This particular building is original to the park and not particularly part of core Rhinefeld. I'm okay, personally, with asphalt shingles on smaller, less important buildings.

Alpengeist station roof got re-done years ago and they took the snow off and put tan asphalt shingles on and it's holding up from a maintenance standpoint MUCH better than the old wooden ones. Then this past season, added snow back to the plaza buildings which, on asphalt shingles, won't kill the roof and get torn off in the future.

You could argue the small details that made the park special would include roof material and I widely agree. I would be absolutely livid if they re-roofed San Marco buildings with asphalt shingles. It would look stupid. Arguably, the tile roof is what makes it look Italian. But this upgrade center is not really thematically relevant. They took all the German people and murals off the walls in favor of giant ugly posters so I don't really care about it. I'm just kinda glad the roof is getting maintenance.

This was the roof on it last week. They are wooden on both the breezeway and buildings.

Highly doubt it is the original roof from 1975. It's more than likely been replaced more than once since then.

The ones on the breezeway were shattering like glass or concrete when the contractors were throwing them into their truck, I think they’re made of slate, I’m not too educated on shingles.

That was the reason I thought the ones on the breezeway were original. They were the same ones the Wilkomenhaus used originally. I believe they are colored asbestos shingles.
