@Crunchewy - I hear ya regarding that delightful stretch of I-95. -Where as a side note, that stretch is part of the reason I moved out of the Northern VA area, 10 years back, so that I could be closer to VA's two parks and avoid 95.

But back to your question. If you're traveling from Baltimore to Williamsburg, I would suggest instead Route 301.

So take it past SFA, all the way down to Richmond and I-295. Or if you prefer, cut back over to I-95 at Bowling Green, or Route 30 West to KD.

Personally I have given up on 95, and take 301 for all my trips up to SFA and that part of MD - where though 301 will certainly have some slow spots while in MD, generally winds up being a faster and a more pleasant option than the other.

A couple notes:
  • Southbound gets hellish just past Exit 161 (Route 1) - Southbound 95 goes from 4 lanes to 3 lanes at Route 123. Note there is a left hand ramp to the tolls lanes just past the left hand exit to Route 1, so get in the toll lanes there if traffic is moving up until that point.
  • Fredericksburg is getting a bit better southbound, since traffic that gets on at Exit 133 (Route 17 N) has to use the local lanes that go through Exit 130, while through traffic can avoid the local traffic that uses 95 to get across the river.
  • As for leaving DC at night, you really need to thread the needle, because you want to leave after rush hour, but before overnight roadwork kicks in, which can start anytime between 8 and 10. If you google VDOT, they publish a weekly calendar of closures and times, so take a look at that.
  • And if price isn't an issue ($202 one-way Friday 6/2), jump on a Southwest flight from BWI to ORF and avoid the whole mess that is 95 between Fredericksburg and Baltimore.

301 is much better crossing the Potomac now that it is two lanes each direction, but don't forget that southbound traffic gets hit with a $6 toll ($4.50 with MD EZ Pass).

Thanks all. These are all super helpful answers. I'll either take 301 as described, or I'll accept the tolls and take the 95 express lanes.

Hi all...I will be at BGW next week and have a couple of questions. Checked the official site but couldn't find what I'm looking for so I was hoping you experts could help me out.

1. We have the Quick Queue Unlimited Plus but I can't find any info on how it exactly works. Is it a little card like we got at Sea World Orlando? Or wristband like at Cedar Fair parks? Where do I go to get our card/wristband/whatever?

2. Does the whole park open at park opening, or do they still do staggered opening? If staggered, what opens at opening and when do the other areas open?

3. I was thinking of trying to head straight to Darkoaster to get a ride in right away, then use our one time QQ later? Good strategy? If so, what's the quickest route to get there? -- Edit -- Just saw in another thread that it's best to go through Italy so I think we'll try that.

Thank you very much!

1. It used to be a wristband. It may have changed though, but I would expect a wristband. I would assume that when you purchased the QQ, it would tell you where to go, but I would guess that Guest Services in England would be where you pick it up. If it is a card, you will probably be directed to the self-service kiosks.
2. England opens first, then the rest of the park. Sometimes Germany opens later than the rest, but even when it was supposed to open later, the Italy path was unblocked.
3. Italy is the best route. The line backs up quick. If you're not there in the first 15 minutes of Germany opening, expect at least a 45 minute wait and it's not worth it at that point. I wouldn't wait more than 15 for it personally.

Hello Friends,

My daughter has a lot of special needs and it is hard for us to wait outside in the heat and also hard in general for Me or my Fiance to leave to wait in a long line to leave the other with her. Would we be able to utilize the rider accessibility program in this case? For instance, if there is a long queue for a ride, would we be able to get the program for my daughter (Who can not ride rides or do any of the attractions, but medically needs us available and ideally both of us as long as possible) that way we can get a time to come back to the line so as not to leave one another for an hour or more on busy days? I know the pass is intended generally for people who are physically riding the rides, but my daughter has a myriad of disabilities neurologically and physically and this would be a huge help for us if this is possible. I know it may not be an easy answer here on the forum but if someone has any info that would be awesome! Bonus if anyone can give me some information for the same question with regards to King's Dominion.

It's my guess that it SHOULD work as described at both parks. You may need to explain the situation, but the program should be able to accommodate your situation.

I was planning to go to the park this Saturday, but it's looking like it's gonna rain. Will most of the rides and haunted houses stay open?
Rides stay open for the most part as long as it's just rain. Outdoor mazes and scare zones will close in anything beyond a light drizzle.

I am going to be taking a guest that is disabled to the park with me this week does anyone know if the disabled rider pass is good for shows during Christmas Town? It's a mid week visit so I am not expecting big crowds but I want to have as much prep information as possible.

Hi! First time posting in this forum, lifelong BG Williamsburg fan...

I know that not all rides open exactly at opening time, but I can't seem to find a schedule of which rides open when. Is that something that's standard day-to-day? Does anyone know the times? I'm thinking mainly of the coasters, and am going next Monday. Thanks!

The rides open with the hamlets. Say if Festa opens at 11:30, the rides in Festa would also open at 11:30. Same goes for other rides and areas.
