Honestly….this is salvageable. The sea monster theme: awesome, love it. But the full name is a no for me. Gargantuan works, no need for the “Vertical Vengeance” or whatever that is. I get that they’re trying to do what they did with Tormenta but this doesn’t work like that did.

This is my take too. Sea monster theme? Dope. @netdvn's theory about surf culture kiaju? Honestly sick.

The name though. Jesus Christ. We've been asked as a community to accept some pretty garbage names over the years, but "Gargantuan Vertical Vengeance" would truly be one of the worst ever. I agree that some sea monster name that plays off "gargantuan" or similar could be okay, but just "gargantuan" is trash and, somehow, it's actually made dramatically worse with that "Vertical Vengeance" tag.

It really is a horrible enough name where I'd almost believe it's Six Flags trolling us. I just really struggle to imagine how that could have topped any list drafted up internally.

I agree! A sea monster does not go well with this coaster layout. This coaster is going to be known for its super tall tower and a sea monster theme does not make sense. A lighthouse theme would definitely match this coaster layout and be better.

On the contrary, a sea monster is actually something I've envisioned as part of this theme from the beginning, and I think that could work extremely well mixed with the lighthouse concept. My problem is strictly the name. Phantom Spire is a solid name. Gargantuan, without anything else, would also be a reasonable name (though I think Gargantua would be superior). Adding the Vertical Vengeance, however, ruins it for me, as of all the things this coaster is going to do, the vertical aspect is among the least noteworthy, plus it sounds too similar to another ride at the park, and we need to kill this trend of coaster names with more than two words (admittedly Gargantuan Vengeance, while still kind of stupid, isn't awful).

What if Phantom Spire is the name of Magic Mountain's thrill glider? To be fair there are a group of mountain peaks in California called the Phantom Spires.

With this new trademark I am going to renegue what I said just an hour ago. I am now leaning toward GVV being for project purple and Phantom Spire being for Six Flags Magic Mountain's coaster.

While it's very possible Cyber Cycle is not the final name for SFMM's ride, Phantom Spire would be an extremely bizarre name choice for the project given the ride will be quite a bit shorter than many of the other coasters in the park. If Phantom Spire is not being used for the coaster, it could very well be used for the drop tower everyone keeps speculating is coming next, or simply abandoned as it isn't unusual for parks to file two or three trademarks before deciding on the final name.

(though I think Gargantua would be superior)

Yep, nothing wrong with this at all. Ship it. It's about 200x better than "Gargantuan Vertical Vengeance" and seems to keep Six Flags' theoretical intent. Honestly sorta wild that RCDB says there has never been a coaster to use that name.

If they REALLY want a subtitle and REALLY want alliteration, something like "Gargantua: The Shore Serpent" would be fine. Sounds like a cheesy B-movie monster and could play off a local legend.

every bad decision has the dickriders out in good time.
Okay NorthDetective, I'll give you this one; folks already seem to be talking themselves into liking Gargantuan Vertical Vengeance.

You could build a China theme park level mountain with a full scale kraken around the tower and I would still scoff at Gargantuan Vertical Vengeance. Gargantua isn't as bad, but if you insist on an alliterative tag and a sea monster theme you could make it

Gargantuan: Abyss Ascension
Gargantuan: Shore Striker
Gargantuan: Tsunami Tower
Gargantuan: Kraken Katastrophe (I know it's a C but go with it)
Gargantuan: Ocean Odyssey
Gargantuan: Trench Terror

I came up with those off the top of my head; surely an entire corporate marketing team can do better than Vertical Vengeance

A genuine 1.5 second google search for sea monster and Jersey shore net these results:

  • The Absecon Abyss
  • The Cape May Kraken
  • The Manasquan Maw
  • The LBI Leviathan
  • The Sandy Hook Serpent *
  • The Barnegat Behemoth *
The last 2 are actual jersey shore lore of sea monsters both are significant better lore and story wise that tied into the area. They used the Jersey Devil…. Why not do the same here?
Even if you didn’t like the tag line for each of these, you can give it a play on other mythological sea creatures like for example Charydbis (which I personally think would be cool since you can Americanize the spelling to be like KA’ribdis to play on Ka …)

Now obviously there’s probably better names we can come up with but I would’ve loved to seen ACTUAL jersey shore lore here tied into the name. Not some vertical vengeance tag line like this is a game of laser tag from the 90’s

People calling "Gargantuan Vertical Vengeance" a bad name are refusing to connect the dots. What stood on that plot before? Kingda Ka, the king! And what comes after the fall of a king? VENGEANCE!

You people all wanted lore, the name is literally telling the story. The coaster isn't replacing Kingda Ka. It's avenging it. "Gargantuan" because subtlety is dead. "Vertical" because the ride goes up. "Vengeance" because vengeance!

The old king is GONE. The Gargantuan Vertical Vengeance ERA has begun. The signs were there all along, THIS IS THE PARKS DESTINY! Open your eyes!
GVV is peak name

Have you ever seen Kingda Ka and Gargantuan Vertical Vengence at the same time? Checkmate. The king was holding the beast down! Six Flags marketing all needs a raise, no mere mortal could have come up with a name and backstory so perfectly intertwined. Even down to the color. If you look on a color wheel Ka and GVV are on exact opposite sides. This has been a rivalry story in the making for YEARS! PEAK!

I really wish this was all real now. I kind of want to be all in out of spite here.

So with people saying project purple isn't Ka's replacement because it doesn't touch Ka's plot (I would disagree but whatever) How big of a plot do they have to work with for an "actual" Ka replacement? And what do y'all think it could be?

The entire Ka plot and the Rolling Thunder plot next to it, if they so chose.
