I feel like Gargantuan Vertical Vengeance would be better saved for whichever park winds up getting Tormenta's successor as it feels more appropriate as a dive coaster name than one with a spiraling spike. Especially for a park that already operates a coaster named Flash Vertical Velocity, it just seems too wordy and too similar to work well with the public.
I agree! A sea monster does not go well with this coaster layout. This coaster is going to be known for its super tall tower and a sea monster theme does not make sense. A lighthouse theme would definitely match this coaster layout and be better.

Gargantuan translates to gigantic and is referred to an eel like underwater Leviathan creature. With the teasers about a sea monster, I'm like 99% sure this is the name. I still think the theming can be really cool if done right. Imagine an indoor queue and station that is themed like an aquarium with flowing water LED lights

I'm not sure how the sea monster thing is new, can't remember if here or elsewhere but I definitely saw people theorizing "sea monster attacking a lighthouse" all the way back when the first piece of track arrived.
I recall the sea monster theme was the second rumor besides the haunted lighthouse. The lighthouse rumor became popular because it made sense with it being a tall tower and the phantom spire trademark.

Colin from Coliwood Studios seems quite confident that Phantom Spire will not be the name for the ride, I believe partially as it does not fit with the sea creature-related teasers.
I think Phantom spire will be the name. In playful jest, I think maybe the phantom of the Jersey Shore (named Covert Carl) protects the shoreline pier from the giant sea creatures. He watches over the shoreline pier from the nearly 400 foot tall spire which includes a rotating light on top, a holding break, an outer-banked turn and a speaker with some creepy voices and a foghorn. You as the rider are the Phantom. 😜

In all seriousness, I love all the progress and tremendous effort put forth by the park on theming.

Regardless, I think people are getting way too overly dramatic about the name.

Phantom Spire was always just a guess that was being made, nothing was "taken away" from us, because it was never promised.

I think "Gargantuan" itself sounds fine, "Vertical Vengeance" is a bit corny, but not the end of the world.

Honestly, I wish the trademark stuff was hidden in some way and I wish the media landscape didn't revolve around rushing into "theories" and "predictions" that then become drama when it doesn't line up with reality.

I disagree, a sea monster actually works pretty well with the coaster layout and fits in with the Boardwalk theme tbh...

Six Flags filed a new trademark for a ride called GARGANTUAN VERTICAL VENGEANCE. I could see that being used for this ride or possibly a new drop tower at another park.
I agree that this is not a great name for a ride. I honestly think it's a red herring. But if it is used for something, I could see if being used as some kind of tagline/slogan on merch. Still, I'm not the biggest fan of it either.

Gargantuan Vertical Vengence definitely sounds like a very appropriate amalgam of Cedar Fair and Six Flags ride names.

Vengence: Steel Vengence (CF)
Vertical: Vertical Velecity (SF)
Gargantuan: Behemoth (CF)

I like all of this chit chat about what the name of project purple could be. With this new trademark I am going to renegue what I said just an hour ago. I am now leaning toward GVV being for project purple and Phantom Spire being for Six Flags Magic Mountain's coaster.

Yeah I see what you mean. The sea monster theme works well with the area and was always seen by me as an alternative to the lighthouse. If done right with theming it would be great. But I was biased towards the lighthouse theme cause how tall the tower is and liked the phantom spire name. But I guess a sea monster could be “tall” too raising out of the ocean and grabbing boats! Eager to see how they go about this.

The colossal squid is the world’s largest squid. Colossal and Gargantuan are synonyms. Colossal is similar to colossus, which is already taken by magic mountain. It’s possible that could be what happened here. I feel like Behemoth, Goliath, or Colossus work a lot better as a side name than Gargantuan. The word is just a little too awkward, especially with 4 syllables which I feel is just too much for an iconic name, Leviathan being the only exception I can think of. (All 3 of the other examples above are 3 syllables, El Toro has 3, Kingda Ka has 3, etc).

Honestly thinking more about it, leviathan and gargantuan are two very similar words. I think the reason leviathan works is because it’s an actual thing - a sea monster. Whereas gargantuan is just describing a size
