Sorry for the double post, it literally says "Ride will be closed for filming June 8 - 10." here
Unbelievable. Just my luck. My summer is tight and with sports and summer camps. the 8th was the best possible day to go until sometime in late July. Free tickets otherwise I'd skip this year

I'm pretty pissed off. I can either the 8th or the 10th. My kid is not quite 52"

Yeah, it's bad timing. These shoots are normal (and obviously something the park NEEDS to do to run ads and otherwise create content) but typically they'd be done before the ride was open to the public. I was a background rider for the DarKoaster shoot, and the park wasn't even open on the day we did it.

Yea it taking up those days is making it more difficult to plan with my friend. You're not alone with this.

I'm aware they are normal, I just think it's a pretty crappy thing to do to the public at this point.

My son is measuring at home at 52" with new shoes. I'm preparing myself for the inconsistent measuring or the completely wrong size height sticks throughout. Also prepping him and myself for the annoyance where the employee that doesn't understand that his shoes (brand new Hokas) are shaped where it almost looks like the heal isn't flat but the shoes aren't any thicker (adding height) than other shoes for his age. when Flat footed, there is a gap.

From my understanding the extreme swinging BBW did caused extra stress to the track. If they kept the old, heavier trains, they'd have to trim the ride to keep the trains from tearing the track apart constantly.
If they wanted to lighten the trains they should have just taken off one of the cars and ran 6 car trains like they did with Vortex at Wonderland. That should have been done when they installed the thicker track in the 90's to lighten the load a little.

I’m in line, and while they haven’t opened the queue, they just finished talking with maintenance and said that it would be at least four hours until it opens.

Probably gonna get a lot of down votes for this, but whatever. The more I think about it the more I really do not like this new storyline. The Black Forest used to have a dark eerie vibe and now they’ve completely sterilized the dark eerie fun right out of it. Don’t get me wrong. The giant tree is cool, but it’s way too bright and whimsical inside the building now. We went from the spirit of the forest threatening the riders to Frau Hexel making an Uber joke… maybe my opinion will change as they work on it but right now it’s way too lighthearted and whimsical for my taste

I honestly kind of agree but I think it was part of their pitch to get funding. You need a pretty substantial change to get this approved as a “new addition”.

As long as they fix the light bleed I think it’s fine.

I had my first ride and overall I liked it but some issues IMO were:
The station audio was difficult to make out. Maybe because they had fans running on Sunday because it was hot but it was hard to understand.
I thought the silhouettes of the witch above the station were a cool addition.
The road sign would have been better, with the arrow moving with a pendulum swinging motion instead of the east to west rotation. The arrow back is unfinished and spoils the believability of the "trick".
The music was an odd choice and while I think it could increase the sense of excitement it was distracting to me, maybe it will grow on me.
The effects inside were awesome with the tree and limbs but the lightening flash and the audio boom make the drop more intense.
I sat back seat and didn't get a good look at Frau, that will come later.

Rant and Spoiler warning
No, it’s not that deep. But here we are…

I decided to ride it a few more times before putting my thoughts together. I’m over 10 rides in now, and while I said I’d post a quick review after preview night, I’ll admit that review would have been pretty rough.

Even now, I don’t think this is a great experience in its current state. This isn’t my official review by any means - consider this more of a “these things need to be addressed” post.

The queue upgrades are cool, but the audio execution is rough. They spent all that money on an animatronic, and you can barely hear it from a few feet away. It doesn’t help that speakers elsewhere in the same building are blasting music while Frau Hexel is trying to speak.

Broom. I was so excited for Broom. So excited. He looks awesome. But I’ll be damned if this thing does anything besides sleep and snore. When he is awake, the audio quality is laughable, and the clunky movements sound incredibly cheap.

The station is another audio nightmare. Some areas are too loud, others are too quiet. Instead of everything syncing together, you’ve got video screens playing audio, entry and exit spiels firing off at different times, and operators talking over top of it all. I think the station audio is technically working now - it’s just incredibly difficult to hear when three different things are happening at once.

Once you’re on the ride, there’s no audio at all where the VW scene used to be. During dual loading, the second train just sits there in silence. There’s now a tree-breaking sound effect as you pass the billboard, but the arrow turns almost too late in my opinion, and the audio isn’t nearly loud enough.

The fog effect at the entrance doesn’t seem to be working, which lets a lot of extra light into the tunnel. The overhead lights during the launch are static instead of activating in sequence. The music throughout the ride is awful and feels completely out of place. The tree scene is awkwardly lit and has very little audio presence while you’re sitting on that block section.

And the VW? They moved it from its original location and stuck it in arguably the worst possible spot in the building. If you want a good look at it, you have about 0.2 seconds to snap your neck to the left before it’s gone.

Now for the good stuff.

I LOVE the “Don’t turn right!” audio sequence before the drop track. The lighting accompanying the drop track is fantastic.

BUT…

“Fine, I’ll save you, but first you have to rate me 5 stars.”

That has to be one of the most baffling choices they could have made for the ride’s big moment.

My jaw was literally hanging open the first time I heard it because… what the actual fuck BGW. Rate Frau Hexel 5 stars in the middle of the Black fucking Forest?

After the drop, the audio issues continue. Frau Hexel is supposed to say “Auf Wiedersehen,” but you only hear it sometimes depending on where you’re sitting. Speaking of which, why was that line basically removed from the ride? I’d much rather hear “Auf Wiedersehen” before the drop than listen to Frau Hexel asking for a 5-star Uber rating.

Then comes launch 2 out of the tunnel, where you fly across a launch track with no audio, and arrive at the bridge. Which still isn’t fully fixed. And, you guessed it… no audio.

Then comes the best part of the ride: getting shaken around like a Walmart shopping cart if you could drive one on I-95. If you know, you know. The ending is getting rough.

In conclusion, will I still ride it? Absolutely.

Do I hope they fix it? Absolutely.

Will they? I hope so.

Is old Verbolten better? Right now, in my opinion, yes.

When everything was working, the original version had significantly better execution than what we’ve been presented with so far. I’m glad they refreshed the ride and gave us something new, but it really feels like it needed more time in the oven. First impressions matter.

The set design is impressive. Really impressive. The lighting and sound design, however, have been a major disappointment. The drop track sequence is genuinely awesome, but I still can’t get over the fact that the big payoff is Frau Hexel asking for a 5-star review. Half the time I could barely hear her while standing in line anyway.

What would be so difficult about giving her a handful of different lines using the exact same animation?

“I told you not to turn right!”

“I warned you not to enter the Black Forest!”

“Now get out of my forest!”

Something. Anything.

I’ll tolerate the 5-star line if it’s mixed into a rotation of other dialogue, but having that be the primary payoff just feels weird.

Anyway, rant over.

Thanks for listening. I’ll provide another update later in the season.

For now? Disappointed. IlL sAvE yOu iF yOu gIvE 5 StArZzzz MY ASS

I don’t get the pearl clutching over the 5 stars joke when DarKastle was just shitty pun after shitty pun in a MUCH darker/scarier atmosphere. They’re definitely going for a similar vibe here and that’s fine. The soundtrack is the biggest thematic issue imo based on what I’ve seen. It’s just too much.

I haven’t ridden Verbolten yet so maybe my perspective will change, but the Uber joke is effectively just a pop culture reference — it’s not even a pun, the entire joke is just that they referenced a ride-share app. It’s a little disappointing that they seemingly tried so hard to make Verbolten feel more “old country” and “fairytale” only to break that immersion with an unnecessary reference to a modern company. It jolts you back into the real world.

By contrast, DarKastle’s puns were timeless in the sense that they were just wordplay. There was nothing taking you out of the moment by reminding you that you’re actually in 21st-century America.

That would be like if Ludwig said “This gives doom scrolling a whole new meaning!” or “It looks like you’ve hit your scream-time limit!” or if he threw you into a clock tower and said ”Is that enough ‘TikTok’ for you today?”

Well shoot, now I kind of want a version of DarKastle full of modern pop culture puns…

That’s reasonable, but it still feels like a nitpick to me relative to the bigger issues. BGW isn’t and has never really been about “immersion” in that way. It’s more about vibes and atmosphere, which the OG Bolt had in spades. This version does too, but suffers from overdoing it in spots. I just think it’ll take a bit of getting used to. I’ll miss the creepy vibes either way, and I hope the 2027 addition plays it a bit straighter.
