Except that Volcano was a 20th Century Fox movie.
Guys, the Safari Village was renamed Congo, after the Paramount movie "Congo". The movie was a flop at the box office. Only thing I vaguely remember were killer gorilla's residing in an area of a valley with a diamond field. I think it was near a volcano that erupted at the end of the movie.

Yes, she sued her step son Kerry Earnhardt for creating a business called the "Earnhardt Collection" for homes and furniture he built. There is zero chance they can keep the name without paying her.
She also completely cut Dale Jr from any power in the company that he was guaranteed after his fathers passing this included a lot of Dale Jr’s IP while being a driver for what he thought was going to be his company. That’s what caused him to move to Hendrix back in the day and form his own companies. I think Dale Jr can’t even use Earnhardt in any branding he does because of it too.

Yep, he can't use Earnhardt in any of his branding. Teresa went after him when he tried establishing Chance 2 and later on JR Motorsports. No one is also permitted to use the DEI number fonts (specifically the 1, 8 and the 15) without her permission. Dale Sr's famous 3 is owned by Richard Childress and Teresa sold the rights to the 1 to Chip Ganassi in the late 2000s and ran the 1 font until around 2012 but no one has used that specific font since then.

Shrewd business choice or someone holding on too tightly to the empire?

Otherwise, so is the consensus that it'll be better for the park to drop the branding once the contract is up?

Without going to far off track there is a lot of bad info in these post. It common repeated myths and some us accurate but not all.

I’d honestly be shocked if Intimidator 305 itself is actually rethemed that ride is branded as that name in peoples minds forever. I just don’t see them changing it being the largest coaster in the park. If they prove me wrong fine. I’m still guessing we see BLSC rethemed at a minimum if they plan to do that.

KD is sort of the king of renames and rethemes. Of their 13 coasters, at least 7 have been renamed:
  • Apple Zapple
  • Backlot Stunt Coaster
  • Flight of Fear
  • Great Pumpkin Coaster
  • Racer 75
  • Reptilian
  • Woodstock Express
Not even counting Twisted Timbers being sort of a rebrand of Hurler, that’s more than half the park’s coasters operating under a different name today than when they opened. I agree that I305 would be the most monumental coaster to be renamed, but if any park had the track record to suggest that they’re not above renaming it, that park would be Kings Dominion.

Jungle X Phase II popping up on Screamscape this morning it seems. Somebody tipped off Lance that BLSC may be rethemed and we may get the Bayren Kurve from CGA? Hopefully that wasn't one of us just sending stuff in that we've discussed in detail on here but it's interesting.

Yeah count me among those wanting some newer modern flats at KD particularly from Zamperla. Rode Harley Quinn at SFA over the weekend man does it make Delirium feel weak.

Maybe I’m wrong, but where’s this idea coming from that CGA’s rides are already about to be shipped to other parks? The park’s sale literally just closed and it potentially has another decade left before the park closes. All signs at least point to CGA opening next season (and probably longer), so why on earth would the park start hemorrhaging rides while it’s still open?

Based on the accuracy of Screamscape’s reporting, I’m surprised they haven’t reported that Kumba is being relocated to KD.

1 - They will eventually need to be moved.
2 - The sale gives a max of 11 years, but the company that bought the land can kick CF off as soon as next year.
3 - We don’t know how long they will have to vacate the property when the company that bought it wants them out. It would be better to give CGA a slow death by getting the rides out they want to preserve than to scrap rides because they don’t have the time to properly dissemble them.

That doesn't quite sound right. Pretty sure that the ride was actually just themed to a Volcano not the movie.
(I've been gone for a week and trying to catch up -- sorry for late replies)
AFAIK Volcano was supposed to be a tie in to Congo (the movie) but they scrapped those references when the movie flopped. Later the story line was developed into Lava Chasers where those riding were geologists who were on an expedition to research volcanic eruptions (roughly this, I may have some details wrong). I feel like I remember reading that there actually was a movie that this attraction was tied to but it was tied to it so late in the game that it never really had a very strong tie in. For the life of me I can't remember what that movie was and I've tried to do some searching and can't locate it.

The CGA claim is what threw a massive "this is a thoosie" red flag for me too. I imagine that discussions regarding the eventual destinations of CGA attractions are only now just begining up at Cedar Fair corporate—and I highly doubt that the Bayren Kurve would be one of the first attractions allocated in that process.

Might we get it one day? I hope so! Do I think that's planned right now? Very much doubt it.

Now on the Backlot retheme front, as long as Jungle X is ruled a success by corporate, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see that project funded. Concepts exist internally and it has been my understanding that it's the attraction most likely to get redone in a theoretical Phase II. Hopefully that will be 2023—but we probably won't know until the park announces it—likely in something like an off-season blog post like they did the previous rethemes.

I hope for phase 2 they fix the water effects on anaconda every person I’ve talked to this season about it didn’t even know it had effects and these are people who have been going to the park for years.

If the new owners want CF off the property (outside of the new lease agreement), they need to give them a 2 year notice. So 2024 the earliest CF would need be gone. I'm expecting the park to run another 4 years and maybe closing/removing the park in 5 years, or 11 years . . . Shrug.

Like the fountain thing shooting from the end of the tunnel, or was there something else too?
