If the intention would be to open next year, I’d imagine we’ll start swing work here within the next couple months. If not, then that tells us the following year.

If the new attraction(s) happens to be a major coaster and CF/KD just made the final decision on what it it is to be, I would not expect it to open until 2025. I assume if it is a flat ride package or dark ride, it could open in 2024.

Yeah, my gut tells me that the Volcano replacement will be in 2025 to coincide with the park’s 50th anniversary.

But I’ve been wrong before…

To add some credibility to that rumor, was in the park with my son today and saw a crew doing soil sampling on the Volcano plot from Reptilian.

From my history with construction, sampling takes place about 12-18 months pre construction. I don't know if there's a difference with theme park construction, though.

I did look up 811 ticket history for KD and saw nothing, which makes me wonder if they were actually sampling, or just moving the equipment around.

Yep, about a year before construction is typically what we see!

KD very rarely puts in tickets for their digging inside the park. I assume they must have their own internal prints for what's on the site? It's one of the things that makes covering KD construction way more difficult than BGW construction.

I mentioned this in the other Volcano replacement thread, but I wonder if the 50th Anniversary will be a two season celebration (like the 40th in 2014 - 2015) and begin next year in 2024? If so, I could see this being a two part Jungle Xpedition project. Could Phase 2 (2024) be a retheme for the back part of Jungle X and Phase 3 (2025) be the larger Volcano replacement project?

If the larger Volcano replacement project doesn't happen until 2025, I certainly hope there is a smaller capital project planned for 2024 after essentially adding nothing new this season and BGW adding two new coasters back-to-back. A flat or two like Kings Island (Sol Spin & Cargo Logo), Carowinds (Air Racer, Gear Spin, Airwalker, Gyro Force, & Windstar), or Canada's Wonderland (Tundra Twister) got this season would be great. However, even the rumored Backlot and potential FOF/I-305 rethemes would at least give the park something to promote and sell season passes with this Fall and Winter...

Regardless it's exciting to hear that there is finally some activity on the Volcano site and that a replacement has likely been selected.

It looks like there is possibly survey working going on between Reptillian and Flight of Fear but the on location that you can see it from is on Reptilian so no pictures.

I bet KD has way too much fun perusing this forum and seeing how clueless we all are or who is warm and who isn’t.

My hunch is still B&M Wing only because they were considering the model before. I really hope they didn’t go check out Pipeline and thought it was super cool but that wouldn’t surprise me either. I guess one thing that could catch me off guard but honestly I wouldn’t blame them a B&M invert like Banshee. Alpengeist is nearby? Let me introduce you to the stretch of space known as “Hersheypark, Dorney Park, and Six Flags Great Adventure” I don’t think the average park guest would care it’s similar to Alpengeist. I’d consider that doubtful, but more likely than you’d think.

There’s certainly the completely out of left field GCI possibility since Cedar Fair loves their GCIs. The only other coaster manufacturers we’ve seen Cedar Fair work with since 2019 are Mack, S&S and Zamperla with Copperhead Strike, Tumbili, and Wild Mouse. My honest opinion Id love a large scale Mack of any kind in that plot of land. I don’t see it happening since they’re expensive and Cedar Fair hasn’t built anymore since Copperhead. I am curious about S&S in case there was some kind of deal with Tumbili but I’d be shocked if we see the first Axis at KD. I would love something like Maxx Force but larger but I’m not sure if Kings Dominion has a lot of interest in a compressed air launch coaster.

They could certainly go somewhere entirely different than their usual routes the past 10 years. Whatever it ends up being hopefully it’s awesome and fun.

I’m not really sure, I’ve never heard anything about how KBF looks at Hangtime. I’ve never heard of it having a lot of downtime. There doesn’t appear to be any other Gerstlauers built in the Cedar Fair chain since 2018. I would love a Gerstlauer Infinity personally. It appears you can condense those in small spaces based on Hangtime and Monsters plots.

I could see an Infinity if entirely launched or the lift hill was first instead of like Takabisha -- Gerstlauer makes some good ones. For example 100' beyond vert. drop, with the vertical lift if they insist ;) , with a rolling launch later to at least 75 MPH with a hangtimey loop over 150'.

Manta at Seaworld Abu Dhabi somehow looks fantastic despite topping out at 44 MPH. Even if they don't use the coaster, KD should take notes of the very doable rocky theming. Attraction - Manta

Some freshly painted red and green markings throughout the area can be seen from Reptillian. This is new since last week. Some small equipment appears to be smoothing some of the area out as well. Also appears they have added some lace behind the fencing around volcano so that you can no longer see through.
