I’ll be devils advocate for a moment. Though they will look fantastic and the theming is great… in the end it’s still Avalanche and a free spin. How far is the theming really going to carry you? While I’m excited to try Tumbili and the revamped Reptilian. I’m way more excited to try Pantheon. Don’t @ me.

I think it’s more the aggregate of the whole area that has people excited, myself included. Assuming this level of detail and storytelling are extended to the entire area — the new restaurant, the new shop, whatever else they’re doing out on the paths — I think Jungle X-Pedition as a whole is going to be the sort of immersive experience we haven’t seen a VA park offer in a long time.

I love roller coasters, but an entire land full of details that immerse you into an adventure is the sort of thing that really made me fall in love with the industry.

I can agree with all of that. It’s very good. But in the end I am more excited by an exciting and unique ride then I am by theming.

EDIT: I will say this: I am actually going to try Tumbili, while I have passed by with a NOPE Joker at SFGAdv a bunch of times (spinning). And that’s all about theming. It does elevate a ride and makes me want to try it. Though it may be a one time event in this case.

If its also Grain & Grill 2.0 in there, that's a big deal for the park experience vs Pantheon and having to plan meals around the BGW visit.

I’m just happy to see we appear to be returning to 3 train ops based on the concept renderings. Very awesome to see all this theming.

If it's anything like when Gavin and I worked there they'll commission all 3 trains in the preseason and run 2 every day except for certain Saturdays where they expect to be busy.

One of the upsides is that this is a shorter size version, so you may fare better on this one.

Didn't Tony on his way out and/or Bridgette on her way in say that in the last several years after I305 they've been slowly replacing the generic amusement park theming elements that generally feel cheap with blue enriching elements as capex allows?

I'll admit that while pavers are nicer than blacktop it's more things like the CAG refresh that deserve the attention and accolades.

Curious when they plan on revisiting Old Virginia though they've done a good job sprucing up individual pieces including the Grizzly shop and the Parched Pig addition.

Well no kidding, I think we're all more excited for Pantheon. I'm just incredibly happy to see that Kings Dominion is really trying to theme and actively improving a rundown area of the park. Yes, it's a freespin, some themed concrete walls (for now), and new paint for Avalanche, but this excites me a LOT to see how the next 5-10 years play out.

(just don't touch the damn trees on I-Street.)

I’m more excited about the theming than the actual rides. KD has the potential to be an absolutely beautiful world class park. But a lot of the Paramount damage still exists. CF is undoing some of that damage by bringing together cohesive theming. Great theming is a quality of a works class park.

Cedar Fair has been doing this lately with the Taft parks when they add a ride. Improving or retheming the entire area. They are slowly being those parks back partway to Taft glory days. (

Montezuma’s Revenge from KBF to KD confirmed?? 👀👀👀

I’m happy to know Cedar Fair is giving Montezoomas Revenge some love and it will be at Knotts long term. It’s the only one of those previous rides left in the USA.

As simple as they are, the Schwarzkopf shuttle is one of my favorite all time coaster experiences. I got to ride White Lightnin’ at Carowinds and Laser Loop at Kennywood. That moment of weightlessness when the train pauses at the top of the large spike, looking at the end of the track 135 ft in the air is pure magic.

I wish Cedar Fair had gotten their hands on Laser Loop when it was sold in Mexico last year. It’s in the hands of the Indiana Beach/Fantasy Island/Clementon owner now. If it is installed at any of those parks I will go there. Just for it.

Wasn't the one in Mexico actually originally from KD by way of some park in the UK?
King Kobra is still in Mexico at Hopi Hari as Katapul. It stopped at Jolly Roger park in MD and Alton Towers in UK on the way. It is a first generation model with the weight drop launch and the lattice loop support. Just like White Lightnin’

Laser Loop ended up at the ill fated Féria Chapultepec Magico as Cascabel. It has a flywheel launch and (IMO less atttractive) solid loop support. It’s the same model as Montezoomas Revenge

Laser Loop was purchased by Indiana Beach owner along with the Schwarzkopf Drier Looping coaster from the sane park that had the horrific derailment accident. They are currently building Dreier Looping at Indiana Beach. The plans for Laser Loop aren’t known.

White Lightnin’ by the way was relocated to South Africa at Gold Reef City as Golden Loop

Yeah, I do agree. Let's see how the replacement for Volcano turns out. If they give us an exciting and unique ride *and* it has great theming, that will be fantastic.

Maybe KD is going to carry you toward a unified themed area where a Major future themed attraction will anchor it?

While these attractions are opening in the same year, I find it very unproductive to use one to impact your excitement for either of the new attractions. When a theme park opens a new attraction I try to think how the new ride will improve the park itself as a whole. Now if we were to compare Tumbili and Pantheon directly then yeah that's an obvious choice but it's still cool KD is building Tumbili at all and revamping a section of the park. We could have been like, and let me check my math here......ALL of the other Cedar Fair parks in 2022.
