The adherance to spelling things with a 'x-' is x-tremely annoying and x-ceeds what I would consider reasonable theming. Did an x-pert x-pect this would go over well? If I ever find them I'll x-hale and x-citedly ask them to x-it into permanent x-ile. X-piration date? x-ceedingly far away.

Now that I've x-pended that energy, I will say I am x-cited for the retheme.

Just for reference based on some of the comments I saw, I think a lot of folks are thinking this ride is the replacement for Volcano and not The Crypt and are thus upset about what appears to be a huge downgrade... Even though I'm sure if the park was able to keep Volcano until a replacement was ready to go they would have.

Yeah, definitely. In a perfect world the park could have said that it was a Crypt replacement and they'll be turning their eyes to Volcano's site in the coming years. That said, given the current environment, it's easy to see why that isn't possible.

Sooooo what about all those other posters? Are they linked to what other rides they might add or re theme avalanche and blsc too? And Especially the Pompeii one is that linked to a volcano replacement? I feel like there’s so much information that wasn’t covered.

I am under the impression that this is the new standard model now due to all the issues that occurred with the Six Flags models.

Curious about this as well, since a friend confirmed that Dragonslayer was running 3 cars when they went. I'm wondering if they have a dual dispatch option similar to the Six Flags models or if it's just a single car station only. Either way I have concerns about the overall capacity of the ride.
What issues did the ones at Six flags have? Oh three trains? Much better than what I thought might happen, but still concerned. I guess with it being super short this time they didn’t need as many cars.

As it is, people who are less looped in (randoms on KD's social pages) are not happy. The reception to this announcement isn't good in those circles. Imagine the wildfire that would be roaring on places like ParkFans and other enthusiast platforms if we didn't have any idea what was coming. It would be an absolute fallout zone.
The problem with this is that these people are not looking at the reality of what this is. It is not replacing Volcano. It is replacing the crypt. Literally the inverse of Shockwave to Delerium. Now I know KD would probably never expressly say it because of optics but if they would let people know that this is not the Volcano replacement which is still TBD they might put the pitchforks away.

X-cellent work.

So, interesting thought experiment. Imagine this thing never leaked. No one had any rumors, no one had seen track sitting in the parking lot, no one had published leaks, etc. Imagine if we had gone through this entire year without knowing anything—just getting hyped by KD's teasers—and then today happened—KD announced a small, low-capacity, cloned 4D FreeSpin as the first coaster since the removal of Volcano.

My point here is don't let anyone ever tell you that leaks can't be a good thing. The fact that enthusiasts were prepared for the FreeSpin has allowed us to focus more on the positive aspects of the announcement—the lore, the rethemes, etc. Having the FreeSpin exposed long ago really benefited KD in this regard.

Do you prefer "eggs" instead of "x"? I believe @Zachary has an opinion on that...

Once the thing is in place, it should be obvious it's not a Volcano replacement.

I think this coaster "checks the boxes" for wing coaster, flying coaster and spinning coaster -- kind of like Copperhead Strike checked the box for launch coaster without being a particularly good one.

Don't worry cause "X gone give it to ya" 🤣

I feel like the X could be them giving themselves cover for several completely random themed attractions. I would love a backlot retheme though. Make the tunnel like a cool temple or something. Probably a pipe dream.

I mean when I rode the joker I was despatched to early and got stuck on the lift for like 5 minutes while they had to reboot the whole system, not to mention my harness unlocked for a second while on the lift

Given that, before COVID hit, Tumbili would have been this year's attraction, we are seeing an animation that is 1.5 to 2 years old. So, either the park expanded the scope of this project to include an area name change or the park had not finalized the area name when it was created.

Secondly, the computer generated park overview could have been generated from older information or was older stock footage. Hence, Tornado. The focus is on the new ride and its location.

I'm glad to see KD trying to actually theme something. I remember when they opened Flight of Fear I thought the theming would be a deserted government facility that you stumbled across in the jungle that happens to have an extraterrestrial presence. Wasn't quite that and since have added a NASCAR themed coaster and a coaster based on an Italian heist job in the safari section of the park. To be fair avalanche didn't quit fit either but at least an Anaconda was something you might come across in a safari. They should at least wrap the trains on the stunt coaster to give it a safari theme and rename Intimidator to King Kobra (one of my favorite coasters at KD back in the day). Particularly if they remove Anaconda - you need a at least one snake in a safari or xpedition.

They're doubling down on attempting to reinforce the new theming is what I get from that.

I guess we'll see next year if it's a new ride, some paint jobs, and a new sign or two, or something much larger.

What's the guess next August we may see a much larger attraction of some sort announced? Not necessarily a coaster, or even a ride - thinking maybe they do a permanent food hall concept with theater space (think more outdoors like the San Marco theater than Das Festhaus).

Kings Dominion would do very well to have a fully enclosed, or at least partially enclosed dining area; especially if they plan to mimic the year-round schedule of BGW. Even for Winterfest, it would be a nice option to be indoors at something in-between San Marco and Festhaus to provide shelter from the elements. I guess this is predicated upon how much of the Volcano layout is used for a replacement ride(s).
