The Crypt was definitely one of the most visually impressive rides in a regional theme park. When they worked, the fire, water, fog, and music created such a spectacular production. The ride was probably more fun to watch than to ride.

Although Tumbili, by nature of being a roller coaster instead of a flat ride that can be programmed into a dramatic production, might not have the same fanfare, I'm pleased that it's at least being made with a special focus on theming. The archaic stonework, temple-like facade behind the ride, bamboo supports, and thematic props shown in the renderings make it obvious that good theming will still be alive and well in this corner of the park. And what Tumbili will lack in Crypt's production value, it may make up for with the constant kinetic energy of cars spinning through the layout.

Short of adding another flat into Crypt's exact footprint and basically reusing the same special effects, I think Tumbili is as much as I could've hoped for as a spiritual successor to The Crypt from a thematic standpoint.
I mean, a free spin is the PERFECT ride for replacing a top spin. Replace something that focused on flips with another ride that focuses on flips. Basically, we’re getting Crypt in roller coaster form with a different theme.

^I mean this is Cedar Fair. The only ride they are building for 2022 is an S&S Free Spin at KD they already announced that to their investors. They are by far the most conservative of the major chains when it comes to new rides.
It does appear that this was an attraction that was kinda thrown into the cedar fair 5 year plan, because of the ratio of adding to removing rides is not what they want it to be. Still happy we’re getting a new coaster though! Only took a couple of years this time!

Honestly can’t wait for 2022. This may not be the coaster of every thoosies dreams but it should be a fun ride (being a zipper fan I’m optimistic). Honestly can’t complain at all about a year where my two local parks get new coasters.
Can’t argue there!

That depends will they actually run the free spin if so you are alone. If they close it all the time Cript was definitely more fun to look at.
I’d say the free spin will actually run so… crypt was down about half of the time

Admittedly I didn't ride it very often, but when I did, I didn't seem to have many issues, Might have something to do with being a slim rider though? Certainly with the maintenance it's time had come. I think I just really appreciated Crypt as not just a top spin, but also a rather well themed one. At least Phantasialand still has theirs...
Crypt aka Baby Talocan

I was thinking earlier, and not to be negative or anything once 2022 gets underway Jungle X is going to be 6 roller coasters and a Scrambler. Definitely could use another flat or 2 back there to fill it out a bit. Plus I assume coaster #7 is in the pipeline for the next 5-10 years (low key crossing my fingers for Mack Launch or Infinity). I wish Cedar Fair would check out Zamperlas flat catalogue a bit for some of their parks outside of Planet/Camp Snoopy.

The supports just look so, so, so good. I don't know how much the thematic paint coast them, but it was worth it.
When you think about that kinda needed to keep doing theming, seeing as they removed two of the most themed rides in the park

I hope CF continues with their theming streak up until the Volcano replacement. From the renders, Tumbili's station looks pretty snazzy, and other parks in the chain have been getting better with their theming all-around. Crossing my fingers for Zimmerman to stay around.

I mean, in general it seems CF has opened their eyes to the possibilities of what a cohesive theme could do for CX and the impact CX has on revenues.

I have to hand it to KD when they do ride theming they go all out I mean even the crane matches.

Not my pictures. I didn't realize that the Flickr page would show as a thumbnail click on it to see the actual photographer's page.

in recent years Cedar Fair has done a great job theming new installations to match the themed area in the former Taft parks.

This was an area where Paramount did a HUGE amount of damage to those parks. Throwing in cheesy movie based themed rides anywhere they would fit. KD and KI still have those eyesore junkyard coasters in the middle of the parks.

CF did a phenomenal job theming Copperhead Strike. It’s the best themed ride Carowinds has ever had, including back to the original days of the park when everything was cohesively themed.

Love the paint as well, but how will that work out for re-paints?

Sounds incredibly more complicated to maintain the paint job once the ride is up.

Better question is how often do they generally repaint steel coasters?

Depends. Apollos chariot at BGW got repainted for its 20th anniversary (if I’m not mistaken that’s the only repaint it’s gotten), Griffon is currently getting a repaint (it needed it), and it appears Alpie is getting a repaint as well, making it sound like around every 10-20 years for B&M attractions in Virginia?

I was referring to KD's paint jobs - to my knowledge, they've never repainted anything except maybe Anaconda at some point in time.

I believe dominator has gotten repainted at one point… I remember seeing a post by the company that does a lot of coaster repaints in VA.
