With the official announcement a couple days away, it appears that KD is the headliner for Cap-Ex for 2022 in the Cedar Fair chain. I don't think that has happened since 2010 when I-305 premiered.

Course, with the COVID Pandemic and the financial difficulties incurred by Cedar Fair because of it, I'm not sure how much Cap-Ex KD has to work with for next year. But, with that being said, it seems corporate is investing "above-average" Cap-Ex at Kings Dominion for 2022.

Just wanted to throw that out there and see what your thoughts are.

One interesting thought came to mind, does anyone think BGW is holding off on opening Pantheon till 2022 in order to have something major to counter what CF/KD is planning for 2022?

I feel like this thread has been thoroughly derailed by KD teasing us maybe we will forget there's an S&S Free Spin that's been in the parking lot for over a year.

I feel like the rumors that have been going around along with the level of teasing is giving people the false impression that this year's announcement is going to encompass a multi-year plan being revealed.

While that would be nice, Kings Dominion has a bad history with multi-year expansion plans and very rarely follows them. I'd be more inclined they'd pull a Planet Snoopy announcement where they announce what's going on for next year and then stinger it with "There's More Coming."

This is exactly what I was intending to reply to with @CoasterAuditor

In addition to what @b.mac is saying, I’ve seen some speculation that the park is going to announce Haunt and WinterFest additions on Thursday during this event. While I’ll be pleasantly surprised, I highly doubt this will happen and I wouldn’t get my hopes up.

With that being said, I would be shocked if the Free Spin is the only thing announced. There’s just too much effort being put into a teaser campaign for it to just be for a ride that’s been sitting in a parking lot for over a year now. It would be a giant marketing fail if it’s just the one thing, IMO.

I have my doubts that the Free Spin is the only thing being announced. BUT, tempering expectations about what else is going to be added should be practiced here.

I'm expecting a more cohesive, "well-rounded" experience for Safari Village in 2022.

I'm expecting a 4D coaster. All the effort? You mean a social media manager they're already paying posting some map coordinates on Facebook, and a couple posters likely printed by an in house sign shop? This isn't exactly a high dollar advertising campaign. Sure, it'd be lovely if it was more than just the coaster, but I don't imagine it's much more.

I'm expecting this to be similar to the Twisted Timbers capital project addition with the "Hanover Hill Orchard" area refresh of Candy Apple Grove:
1. The 4D Freespin where Crypt was
2. Avalanche refresh (paint and/or station) and possible retheme similar to Ricochet's transformation to Apple Zapple, and maybe Scrambler, too!
3. Nearby restaurant refresh (likely Outer Hanks)
4. New pavers, paint, landscaping, theming, etc. throughout the immediate surrounding area
5. Similar to calling the Twisted Timbers area "Hanover Hill Orchard" subsection of Candy Apple Grove, this area could become a new "The Lost World" (or a similar expedition/travel theme) subsection of Safari Village
6. Possible snack/treat/adult beverage shack or gift shop in the former Volcano photo area/gift shop (lower level) if the Volcano site is going to sit dormant another 2-3 seasons

I'm not expecting the following to happen, but would like to see:
1. Entire Safari Village refresh/retheme or division into two separately themed areas
2. Tease for a Volcano replacement(s)

I'm just going to put my predictions out for Thursday. Personally I think they are going to reveal the free spin along with a retheme of the SV area of the park, they might also pull a BGT and tease the volcano replacement because we all know that is the next big thing for KD, when ever a major CF park removes a headline attraction they all ways replace it with another attraction (EX: fire hawk and Orion, Disaster transport and gatekeeper, shockwave and Delirium, the crypt and the free spin)

Did you just call Disaster Transport a headline attraction?
It was one of the headline attractions at Cedar Point back in the late 80s/early 90s along with Magnum, Gemini, Iron Dragon, and Demon. The bigger B&Ms and Intamins didn’t start coming in until the later 90s.
