From KD Fanatics facebook post (picture showing Volcano pretty much completely gone):

Looking at that pic, it really doesn't look like there's enough space for a large coaster. Maybe they put an infinity coaster in there, but maybe they'll put something larger somewhere else instead. Dinos Alive maybe, but please don't cut down Grizzly's trees....

There’s more space behind Avalanche. It’s a pretty sizable area.

Not really. The additional land back there is maybe a quarter of the space you can already see in the picture, when you consider that it’s boxed in by power lines, service roads, and Kingswood. It’s a tiny plot of land any way you slice it.

KD objected to that photo and a video that KD Fanatics posted and made them take them down. KD said they were taken behind the scenes, though KD Fanatics says that was not the case, but they took them down to stay in good graces. Kind of weird that KD would object to Volcano deconstruction photos all of a sudden. I can still see the photo at the link above, though. Maybe it's cached.

Sighs.

Parks get away with this shit because fansites let them. Imagine if KD called up a local newspaper and asked them to do something like this—the paper would (rightfully) tell them to get lost. It's a shame fansites aren't willing to take the same stand.

The angle of the shot appears high and wrong for a behind the scenes shot I suspect that it might have been a drone shot and that might be the reason for the fuss and removal.

According to the Hanover County website, Kings Dominion filed for a Site Plan Amendment on May 10th (Project #19-30000015). It could have nothing to do with Volcano's replacement, but I thought it worth noting. Their site is not as forthcoming with details as the James City County site is, but as it does list quite a few different groups required to review this application, it would seem to be a pretty significant site plan amendment.

There should be a small description of what type of work they are planning on doing. It's how I debunked the permits that were really for an Ice Machine and Racer's new op panels.

Unfortunately, there was just about nothing in there. The only thing I found was a GPIN number for the location, which looks to be along Doswell Road (which is the road that goes behind Volcano)

it’s super tough to say when the replacement will be. It looks like a large space but nothing has really been leaked or put out for a 2020 addition.

It's really not that big of a space. I used to be in the camp that a big coaster could go there, but after seeing it in person, it's not much. I can see a compact coaster like a Mack or Gerstlauer, or a few flats at most. The best fit, in my opinion, is a Gerstlauer. There is nothing like it close to KD and it wouldn't set Cedar Fair too far back in terms of cost. Put a light package on it like they did with Hangtime, boom, instant crowd pleaser.

Because the park has enough flats and Delirium looks ugly enough on a flat surface

Like if you’re not gonna put a coaster then at least do some cool themed experience. Don’t make it Six Flags America 2.0.
