I don't ride Alpengeist because it's uncomfortable - I don't ride it because it's boring and no amount of themed elements can overcome its bland gimmicks.

But I probably wouldn't mention all that in a thread about Volcano's replacement. That would be rude.

^^ I think there's a real chance of that. Or they have built a launched invert.

I find inverts very subjective, my enjoyment varies greatly. I've ridden while wearing down and saw nothing in it, come back rested or at night and rode the same one and felt like I could have stayed on it for hours. I had perhaps the most ecstatic, transcendent ride of my life on Alps, but admittedly half the time I can't even see how that happened. Volcano was somewhat an exception, but such a different ride except for being inverted.

Does Flight of Fear not count? Though I'd hardly call Boo Blasters a dark ride. In any case I don't think KD needs another dark ride. They could use some more unique flats, even though I don't ride most of them because they tend to make me sick to the stomach. Scrambler is an awesome classic I do ride, and doesn't make me sick because it moves in a star pattern. Which is part of why its awesome! Never remove Scrambler, please.

On a related note. I keep thinking of trying Bad Apple, but it scares me. But it also seems to move in a star pattern. Is this one motion-sickness-people-friendly too?

I've been fine on Bad Apple. I rode Delirium once and don't want to feel that again. However I got really sick the first time I rode Flying Eagles, and now I can ride it. Was very young and went crazy on it scaring my companion, then suddenly realized too late the need to monitor my condition. I had to wait out the end of the Knoebels flyers, they run them way too long and the gas engine makes it even worse.

For my two cents I would hope that the park doesn't rush to build another inverted one. Any new invert in automatically going to be compared to VTBC and given the novalty that VTBC was is likely going to be measured lacking by people. For my money it would be a wiser dollar value investment to go in a different direction and maybe comeback to an inverted in a few years after the pain of the lost has healed some. Just my two cents.

I mean another launch coaster is the thing that would fit that profile (the novelty).

To add to horsesboy’s point, I hope the new ride isn’t a launch coaster either for the same reasons. It would invite too many comparisons to Volcano.

I’d rather see them go in a completely different direction with a coaster. What’s missing in the park’s lineup right now?

Any adult coaster that is truly mild and smooth (BGW too).

Mine train. In a general sense, a smaller coaster that relies more on its setting and its small size and lower speed allows it to come closer to a natural environment. Length and a rambling layout over speed. A modern version would be like a Mack multi launcher without inversions and even less force and speed. Well suited to a safari theme.

Someone mentioned Raptor, sufficient capacity and a rambling layout could be supported by 2 lifts 4 block brakes 2 load stations 7 trains.

I originally had written down mine train too, but I concluded that Avalanche and Backlot were both close enough to that category that it wasn't really a glaring void.

I still think the most likely coaster is an infinity coaster. I can’t see CF rationalizing a B&M invert or a hyper. We’ve never seen a hyper style coaster go up after a giga along with the fact that that wouldn’t be different at all from what’s down the street at BGW (does this really factor into a company’s decision making? I’m not sure but it seems somewhat likely).

Personally I think a Gerstlauer Infinity similar to Hangtime is the most likely replacement if they put a coaster in this spot. I think it'll fit nicely in that spot and will actually add to their lineup. I don't really think that they need an invert.

You beat me to the infinity coaster ?. That's what I get for taking forever to type lol.

I would say that while I think they look at what BGW has, they would never rule out a ride simply because BGW has one. If they were owned by the same company then potentially that could be the case but they aren't. I think it would more come down to whether they feel like they could execute better than BGW. The same goes the other way as well. If this were the case then BGW probably would have said that KD has launch coasters galore we can't build one of those.

In the flip....how many places without a hyper got a giga?

It depends on if you consider red force and tower of terror 2 as Giga because they are between 300 and 400 ft. Personally I don't. I only consider the following 5 as Gigas:
Fury 325
Steel Dragon 2000
Millennium Force
Leviathan
Intimidator 305

Of those 5 parks based on my quick search on rcdb KD and Nagashimi Spa Land (Steel Dragon 2000) are without a hyper coaster. The other 3 all have Hypers that were built before there Gigas. If you include Tower of Terror 2 and Red Force then the majority of parks with Gigas do not have Hypers as neither Ferrari Land or Dreamworld have Hypers.

  • 200-ish Foot Tall Coaster Focused on Airtime
  • Inverted Coaster of Any Kind
  • Something with a Vertical or Beyond Vertical Drop
  • Wing Coaster
  • Flying Coaster

Considering Cedar Fair's change in investment strategy if 2021 is a coaster I am banking on option 3 first and slightly on options 2 or 4. I doubt Cedar Fair will approve 1 or 5 for a variety of reasons, namely cost.
