Old Virginia has always struck me as the perfect place for a wing coaster. Something about soaring through the forests and above the treetops, either in the old Dinos Alive plot or in the woods behind the Kings Dominion Theater, just sounds wonderful.

I think a more compact attraction would be a better fit for Volcano’s site, like a Gerstlaur Infinity coaster. That said, I’m not sure if an inversion-focused coaster like an Infinity would be redundant so close to Flight of Fear, Anaconda, and Dominator.

I'd like to see them put in a big GG wooden coaster. Think Voyage. Having a 4th wooden coaster again (no, I don't consider TT to be a wooden coaster) would make them unique compared to nearby parks and I think the only nearby GG is Oscar's Wacky Taxi? I might be wrong about that.

If they build any wood coaster it would most likely be a GCI based off of Cedar Fairs last 4 wooden coaster installations. I would absolutely love a big full size GCI at Kings Dominion and could realistically see that happening. I think that large amount of land the dinosaurs were on is a great spot for one. Definitely a much better idea than an equivalent to that adventure game thing Cedar Point built.

A GCI might be more likely given that, but I want a big GG coaster to ride! I have a bunch of GCI ones to ride already. A GG would be more unique for the area.

KD already has a good woodie and a great sorta-woodie. A GG is not on the top of their priorities and wouldn’t be a good fit for that Volcano site (if anything put it where Dino’s was).

I don't know what the "great sorta-woodie" is that you're referring to. Rebel Yell Racer 75 and Grizzly are both great wooden coasters, with Woodstock being a fun junior woodie.

Not sure how you know what the park's "priorities" are given that most investments, and additions to the parks are decided by Cedar Fair and very high up management.

That sorta-woodie is Twisted Timbers. But a GG would be a shit fit for that Volcano spot.

So put it where Dinos Alive was. Plenty of space and wooded, no? I actually never went through Dinos, but I assume there's a pretty good amount of space back there. Admittedly that puts two wooden coasters side-by-side, but that's not such a terrible thing.

When they had 3 rides, 4 tracks of adult wood coasters, one didn't get any substantial maintenance unless you call a trim brake maintenance.

What would make me happy is if they put some TLC into their existing rides. I like the retracking they've done for Racer. Continue that in the next offseason, and how about doing the same for Grizzly? Restore the FX on Backlot like they've apparently restored them on The Crypt and restore more theming on FoF. If they did all that it would help soothe the wounds until they get a replacement for Volcano built.

Cedar Fair has done track work on Grizzly as well although yeah they skipped it this year and it's been pogoing since mid-October ... the retracking they did on RY75 for 2009 (the rise to the turnaround) is going to need doing again within a couple years, it never ends. FX is good. I notice details like a big spot of rust on Dodgem's sign and all the nails sticking out on the facade.

Honestly, if you live in Virginia I’m not sure which local park is remotely likely to add a larger GG coaster. Cedar Fair, and Six Flags have added approximately zero. SeaWorld built a junior GG woodie at Sesame Place but I can’t see them putting a larger one at BGW it took them forever to build A wooden coaster at BGW. Could any of these parks add one? Yes. Will they? Probably not unless things change.

Gravity Group has done a lot of work with Kings Dominion on Racer 75 over the past few years. If any park in the Cedar Fair chain pulls the trigger it'll probably be Kings Dominion.

I didn't realize that GG did the track work on Racer 75. That's cool and perhaps hopeful?

From KD Fanatics facebook post (picture showing Volcano pretty much completely gone):

Looking at that pic, it really doesn't look like there's enough space for a large coaster. Maybe they put an infinity coaster in there, but maybe they'll put something larger somewhere else instead. Dinos Alive maybe, but please don't cut down Grizzly's trees....
