If those winds and gusts are gonna be sustained throughout the day, don't expect it to open.

I forgot the exact year but sometime in the late 1990s, a strong wind gust caused an Alpengeist train to valley in the middle of its cobra roll. The park has been cautious with high winds since.

Well this is good news, but depending on vouchers, they could nix rerides today, as the park is only open until 6 pm...

This was incredibly infuriating Friday.

There was a large group of kids who kept getting back in line (at least 5 times) before the ride was opened to rerides. The people guarding the entrance and taking vouchers continued to let them, while turning the people directly behind them away.

Eventually, we walked up right after the kids had gone in a 6th time, and were told that we could only ride once. We even got a condescending explanation of the policy. And then they denied having let the large group of kids through (to be clear it happened moments before we walked up).

I don’t care what policy the park sets. I care that it be enforced equally. And if they are going to have two different standards, I would recommend against being so obvious about it.

Rough day for Pantheon. I am sure there are many factors on why it’s not running (due to wind), because it is really not ‘that’ windy here today (even at altitude). I’m sure it’s a break in thing, or preventing unnecessary wear if a rollback occurred. Part of me just hopes they know it will run quicker… because if “these” winds shut it down… this coaster won’t work in VA.

Yeah, I thought it shuts for "sustained" wind. Is sustained longer than 5 seconds, because that is about how long gusts are lasting at the moment in the extended queue.

And next weekend could be rough for previews. Looking like rain Friday, and only in the 40s Sunday.

you cant blame us for being allowed to go though, we were offered the chance to reride. we never asked nor were expecting the offer.

When I was at the park, there were only rules for gusts. If a gust got above the approved limit, a shutdown had to be done until no gusts were observed for a min of 15 min.

I would assume so. Using sustained winds would involve calculating the average over a period of time. A gust is much more likely to cause a valley than sustained. Sustained winds would keep a ride down, or never let it open for the day either.

And it would certainly explain why Iron Gwazi was down for 3 hours the first day of previews. There was a pretty stiff gust every 5 minutes or so that afternoon.
