Huge thanks to everyone who contributed thoughts to me over the last 24 hours! It turned into a really great article that's well worth everyone's time!

For someone who doesn't write coaster reviews you've managed to facilitate a really good coaster review...

How can the public be heard that theming matters? Would the average person care if there wasn't a new attraction one season to focus on theming? Who knows, maybe there is a plan for this empty space here, but it certainly doesn't seem like it. How expensive would it be to have some columns and stuff around? The launch section would be even better if there were objects around you. I am excited to ride this though, but this may be my last paid year for a little while to go to Hershey which is the same distance for me.

Well it's just that there wasn't enough time to plan it, right? 🤣

Theming doesn’t provide incremental ancillary revenue in SEAS bean counters eyes, whereas quick queues to avoid depressing waits most certainly do.

Hm... I'm no bean counter, but seems to me people visit Universal specifically for Hagrid's (not to mention, say, WDW for Rise of the Resistance or for, you know, Disney's approach to theming in general). "Imagineering" probably costs Disney-level bucks, but geez, even throwing a few plywood cutouts of Greek gods around would be something. I guess enough people will come just for the coaster experience, but I wonder whether a dollar value could be placed on how many would also come for an awesome theming experience—or even a mediocre one, or even, you know, any at all.

I was certainly surprised, given that it purports to have a narrative, and to have portions of the ride represent different things, that there's nothing to signal that symbolism. Even Velocicoaster, to my mind, is just a great coaster with a plywood dinosaur glued to it, but that at least shows some effort.

That’s the standard Disney and Universal have built for themselves and what their customers expect when they make those trips. I know most on this board would disagree as far as their personal opinions but in the grand scheme of things I think BGW recognizes now that they are not held to that standard/expectation by most of their customers, even if maybe they used to be 20-30 years ago.

The really odd surprising thing is how little this ride is themed and how WELL themed Tumbili is for what is essentially a ride you can ride at like 10 other parks in the US and Pantheon is unique. I feel like if anybody with an eye for detail goes to both parks this season and rides both attractions is definitely going to notice the difference be like "this is odd" and it can improve KDs reputation somewhat with some people which will be good for KD. Hopefully DarKoaster isn't as lightly themed as Pantheon. It is rather jarring it basically feels like BGWs own I305 when I really think about it.

Well, soon KD might become BGW-NorthWest. So, this is just starting to equalize the two in theming levels...

Sure, and I'm not expecting most new coasters at BGW, Carowinds, Six Flagses, etc., to have animatronics or an immersive queue. In fact, perhaps my surprise is more about the theme that they aspired to have. I mean, after all, Loch Ness boils down to "It's called Loch Ness and it reflects that byyyyy being really twisty." Pantheon could have stuck with "... and it reflects that by joining an elite group of the world's best coasters." My surprise was that I read the premise—"This part is Zeus, that part is Hades"—then watched the POV and was like "Wait, did I miss it? Which part was which?"

Exactly. The theming doesn't have to be crazy. I have a hard time remembering, but Drachenfire wasn't themed. A little bit would have went a long ways even if it was just the station roof not looking so generic
