Social media ads don’t really count towards ‘substantial’ advertising in my opinion. They are based on ‘your interests’ and searches. It’s like a fake world created for the consumer.

No but it's still advertising

There are multi-million dollar companies that beg to differ. A well placed tweet can result in countless thousands of dollars in "free" exposure you'd never be able to buy. A recent example is Wendy's -

I think that a partially true statement.

I wouldn't want park to be spend bulk of its ad money on social media but it's also an extremely important area that only growing in importance each year and something that can not be ignored or low prioritized. As a matter of fact I bet dollar to dollar the park see a higher return on investment from it the traditional add areas.

Idk about you but I do not think many social media platforms are currently growing.

I know more people than ever before who've either quit Facebook or only use certain features such as messenger.

Even Twitter's user numbers are down.

I never heard or saw anything about Wendy’s until you just mentioned it. If I’m not expressing interest in hamburgers, which I’m not, I won’t see anything about Wendy’s, regardless of how many tweets it gets. Same goes for coasters and theme parks. I’m not saying there isn’t value in its advertising platform. Only that it is created inside of its own bubble of interested parties.

How did you not see any of the millions of success that were out there about it for the past few days? I can't open anything without seeing an article about it or someone posting talking about it.

As with any business, the best marketing list is your existing customers. New customer acquisition cost is the criteria for measuring ROI on marketing. Tactics without tracking and quantifiable data (read: sales) are faith-based initiatives. Social media has come under tremendous scrutiny (linked article below); the sponsored ads generally perform better than ‘free’ because it’s a qualified list to which one is targeting, as too is a fan page.
As with most businesses, BGW will use an omni-channel approach for getting the word out on Pantheon. Until the marketing team has an open date, they will use caution with hyping at risk of ‘crap happens.’ Right now, all the financial risk lies with them; they’ll take their decisions accordingly.

Some dogs are brown.

Ever read a post and wonder who the author envisions attending their imaginary Elderhostel lecture?

So an article that Facebook has fake accounts created that they take down within minutes of creation explains what exactly for your point?

There is lots of tracking available on social media. You can track your page views, how many times it's shared, how many people have seen that post, etc.

No one is arguing that there won't be a more considerable push coming soon. That's not the argument, the argument is that the park should be doing more with free media in the meantime to keep the hype up. Right now they haven't committed to a date, they have just said Spring. Which technically means it could open anytime from mid-March to mid-June and still be Spring and no one would get upset. The park does post stuff on social media for Pantheon, just not as much as they should.
