I'm curious if there's maybe some sort of contractual thing where the contractor has full control of the site and though the client can visit it takes a lot of work and effort to setup which makes the minimal effort social post much more complicated.

That and the staffer that would do the work is either lazy or busy working on some other project and doesn't have the time to go through the hassle.

I honestly don't think the first part would be a thing, but I don't have any experience in dealing with contractors for such types of projects, especially when said contractor is bringing in some fairly new technology and has been previously blackballed from working with the client.
A few things have to happen before they can consider a date-
1. Coaster test runs ad nauseum
2. SEAS signing off and accepting the install.
3. An army of government inspectors signing off on various aspects of the project.
4. BGW personnel doing the final touches on paint, landscaping, fiber optics, etc.
5. Safety inspection of surrounding footprint (fencing, etc.)
6. BGW personnel trained in operation, maintenance, evacs, etc.
7. Coaster test runs ad nauseum.
8. Waking up the marketing department.
For all we know the marketing dept is wide awake, and deliberately holding off until steps 1-7 are sorted through.

The marketing will come. There’s no need these days for luck with social media. Once the marketing ordinance is ready, it can be uploaded with its assigned coordinates (geography, demographics). It isn’t ‘free’ - but free and impact are separate measures of success.

The day-trippers and weekenders have different needs, requiring different messaging and promotional incentives.
Impact is the measure and you can bet that free marketing is what every company actually wants. They want to be able to market their stuff without spending a single dollar.

I'm flabbergasted at all your statements. You can't just start marketing something with little warning. This is the time that people are deciding on where to go on vacation. And to say the park isn't marketing the ride isn't true. I see tons of targeted ads for Pantheon online, but they should be leveraging what they have access to and market this ride for as little money as they can right now. It literally costs then nothing beyond some time and effort for social media posts that would bring a ton of impact and reach a lot of people. It's the smart play which is why no one understands why they haven't started yet.

To get onto the actual construction site, yes, there would need to be approval from Design & Engineering as well as coordination with the contractors on site. That said, judging from my experiences when BGW would set BGWFans up with exclusive off-season access to InvadR for instance, it was really only a matter of asking the foreman where we could safely go and staying out of their way. Plus, a lot of the time, you never need to step into a single patch of dirt to get great content—the service roads around the Pantheon site provide great angles without ever needing to come close to being on the actual construction site or interfering with any work.

A new and free view of Pantheon’s tracks under a February moon is pretty. I’ll plan when I know it’s running.

They have two opportunities, agreed - it's a matter of apportionment of the marketing spend/intensity over the next 3-year period.

For sure, there will be the normal faire marketing and promotion for Pantheon - they likely want to nail the opening date, before pushing out any substantial marketing - I'd venture to guess that's why the marketing has been insubstantial to date. I wouldn't market anything beyond teasers, until it's cleared all the testing, i.e., the risk of eggus-omelette on everyone's face.

When I say 'big' with the marketing push, I mean at a scale that SEAS/BGW has not normally operated. While it may be a yawn for coaster enthusiasts, 2021 is the deliverable that puts BGW on the national map with the general public. For that reason, I could see the intensity of the marketing building to a 2021 crescendo. This overall marketing push needs to sustain BGW for a few years; I'd hazard to guess, as perhaps others have, the next significant step-up for the park wont come before the 2025/2026 period, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the US.
It's not just major marketing dollars for adds but little stuff. It would cost the park almost nothing to send someone out with a camera or heck even cell phone grab a few shots of the train being unloaded and spread them out on the major social media platforms. Also if you look at the push that Invadr received that came well before an opening date with just the coming this spring headline there is no reason something like that couldn't be going on.

Just because you won't plan doesn't mean the majority of people aren't currently planning their trips
Most families with children in school (with set dates for vacation) will find it difficult to plan around a date called ‘Spring.’ They’ll go with what they know, especially those who can’t do the day trip to BGW. Different story for those who live within a couple hours of BGW; we can rest assured the local media will be provisioning the free media.

It's actually really easy to plan around a date called spring with school aged kids because it means it'll be open before summer vacation.

I'm sorry but you just don't understand the realities of marketing. Free marketing isn't about what the local media is showing, almost no one watches the local news or reads the local paper anymore. But they do interact with brands they like on social media and follow people they deem experts. If the park posted more updates people would seem them on their feed because they would get shared by other sites or because they already follow the parks. Then when they are talking about where to go for summer vacation they will go I heard that BGW is opening a new ride in the spring, we should go there this summer. That's how most people will look at it. BGW isn't trying to convince people to come here for Spring break because of the ride. They are hoping to convince people to come this summer during their vacation.

The park is already marketing and running ads for Pantheon. I know because I see them all the time online and even a few on TV. The question is why aren't they better leveraging free social media to reach more people and be more efficient with their spend? For some reason they aren't doing it and they should be because they are missing people by not doing it. There are people who aren't going to see the ads or will and not think about it but then they see a post on FB from someone saying how excited they are and that triggers the thought.

Hey everybody, watch this.
  • I have a family with kids in school. Just like you said!
  • They have set dates for vacation. Just like you said!
  • We aren't local, or really even all that close to local, and therefore can't do the day trip to BGW. Just like you said!
  • In other words, we are EXACTLY the demographic you are describing. Just like you said!
And guess what?
  • We don't find it difficult AT ALL to plan around a date called "Spring."
  • We've already made our plans, easily, around a date called "Spring."
  • So have several other families in our area who tick every single box in your called-out demographic. They planned around a date called "Spring." Easily.

Please stop. You aren't in that demographic, you clearly don't understand it, and you have no idea what you're talking about.

Ok, now that we've "resolved" the marketing issue and (with maybe the exception of one family) folks are ready to trek to Williamsburg...how about we (horrors) contemplate there's some issues.

I stand by the marketing theories I've recently expounded but what if the "silence" is due to issues? What if there are some footer issues? Miscalculation of available electrical power? Issues with the RPA? Failed inspections?

I've never built a coaster (except in RCT2...and that sucker crashed) but I've been around enough construction projects to know crap happens.

Based on their past, I think it's just marketing dropping the ball. But....

It's possible but I think if there was a significant delay they would stop the spring opening marketing and go back to opening this year. I think there fact that they are marketing Spring still is a good indicator that the ride hasn't seen any significant delay.

True. But the Spring efforts I've seen make no mention of Pantheon. The last Instagrams I got were cool Moms, Presidents Day giveaway, Fun card and a "countdown". No mention of Pantheon on Twitter, either. Obviously they have to sell tickets no matter what so I can't see them going totally silent because of a delay in one project.

So basically all the marketing locally is not Pantheon For the most part this area is familiar with the project
My question is what about outside the area Ohio Pa Md WVA ETC....
Can anyone on here confirm 100% that nothing is being advertised outside the local area?

Yeah but they are still running ads and on their website it still says it's coming spring right at the top as part of the advertising for the sale on fun cards and memberships.

This is a screen of what I see on their website...

No mention of Spring on the dedicated page. And, at least on social media, (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram) the ads they're running have been "Pantheon-less" since soon after the hardhat tour.

EDIT - allow me to repeat it's just a question.. I've no inside info. I still believe it's an inept marketing department...

Like @ManitobaMoose showed, I was referring to what is seen on the Busch gardens home page

I don't see that in my browser until I clicked a few times...my landing was just the various ticket packages. But, once again, we see inept efforts. The front page says Spring but the dedicated page just says 2020. ?

@Unagi Where are you located? Mine (scrolling) shows what I listed above. No Pantheon.
