How is this the world's fastest when Soaring with Dragon is faster?

Me guess is that they are referring to launch speed and the top speed on Soaring is not reached on the launch but on drop post non inverting loop.

So they are mostly likely referring to the fastest launch on a multi launch coaster.

Edit: this is from Intamin's page on SwD:

So the top speed isn't from a launch but later during the ride.

So it might be the fastest launch on a multi launch coaster.
But wouldn't the fastest speed on Pantheon be reached after the top-hat right? I have not been to the site to see Pantheon in person, but from the photos, it looks like the turn after the top-hat is considerably lower than the launch, which is where they would measure fastest speed right?

And you think the Pathenon launch is 73mph? That would make the drop to the Rhine what...80?

Maybe. The stats from the park have only ever said what the launch speeds are. They have never said what the speed would be post drop from the top hat

You are correct. I'm not sure how they are missing out on SwD then. I thought that they had previously said the 4th launch was 72.5 mph

AHA! I got it. Hear me out. After watching the video again, they said "Mercury can get us to 73 mph..." Mercury is code for the launch. Jupiter is the Top hat and Pluto is the turn by the Rhine. This would indicate that the launch will be 73mph and the top speed is somewhere above Soaring with Dragon's top speed. They cleverly did not specifically say that 73 was the top speed, nor that 73 would be a world record speed, just that the top speed of the ride would be the worlds fastest. Make sense? It's all speculation at this point, but I think they were tricksy on purpose.

Based on their current level of effort for marketing (or lack thereof), I seriously doubt they thought that much into it.

I wonder how large people friendly these new intamin restraints are. They don't look that bad at all (no awful shin guards looking at you Twisted Timbers). Of course I could make this easier on myself with diet and exercise during busy season.

Lol @ControlsEE , if that's the case, there's going to be some serious airtime cresting the top hat. Plus, anything above 73 on the drop would be surpass Apollo.

Nope, they just missed SwD....
Well like I said, it's all speculation at this point, so time will tell, but it would be quite embarrassing for them to now claim the fastest xyz and did not confirm it. I would have hoped that they at least went to RCDB, or that Intamin would have said something to them.

My guess would be that the information came from Intamin and that they said it was faster than Taron which they claimed was the fastest last fall.

It's very likely that they saw that Phantasialand (and Intamin) claim Taron is the fastest multi-launch coaster in the world, figured they could add half a mile per hour to Pantheon's speed to beat it, and then moved on without any further research.

The real issue here is that Phantasialand seems to stake their claim on the belief that Soaring with Dragon's "swing launch" only counts as one launch and hence, Soaring with Dragon isn't a multi-launch coaster. I tend to think that rationale is bullshit, but whatever, it's their position and it's not totally outside the realm of reason.

THAT SAID, BGW has painted themselves into a corner here. They continuously claim Pantheon features four launches, not two (one + the swing launch). In doing so, they must also use that same definition for Soaring with Dragon, making Soaring with Dragon a multi-launch coaster and hence, invalidating their claim that Pantheon is the fastest in the world.

BGW marketing has to pick their poison here. Either...

  1. Pantheon has two launches, Soaring with Dragon (and, ironically, Tempesto) aren't multi-launch coasters, and Pantheon is the fastest multi-launch coaster in the world or...
  2. Pantheon has four launches, Soaring with Dragon (and Tempesto) are multi-launch coasters, and Soaring with Dragon is the fastest multi-launch coaster in the world.
BGW can't have it both ways.
