I do think it is a little funny that Busch Gardens has patently refused to work with Intamin for all these years because of issues they had with construction and downtime, and then the first ride they get from them in years is essentially a prototype, likely prone to issues with construction and downtime. Seems like they're setting themselves up for a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Then again, going with the alternatives to Intamin didn't really save a whole of headache, now did it...

In a sense, it's really an existing coaster design with a single new element. Pantheon is very similar to Soaring with Dragon which been running since 2016. The single new element, the fast switch track, is getting a rather extensive "test" with the Universal Hagrid ride. So, I guess you could call Pantheon a "prototype" but I think of it more as a hybrid.

Pantheon isn’t anything like SWD except that it has a spike and a switch track.
The track layout - you're right.
But the concept of switch track, forwards/backwards launches and spike are the same. In fact, from videos I've seen of Hagrid, it appears the switch track operates at almost the same speed even though SWD does the "stop". So, to me, it's really more of a software change than physical. That's why I consider Pantheon more hybrid than prototype.

Beyond software would there be any physical limitations to the mechanisms that allow the switch to where they'd also need to be updated to go faster?

Checked out the construction site yesterday and found something interesting. The dirt hill they’re building will somehow interact with the ride. It looks like where the zero g stall is gonna go.
