I could actually see the park doing this, having no idea the legacy or association it carries. I mean, a ride themed to vikings is not far from that. How would that be much different than having a ride called The Crusade?

Maybe Madrid was gonna be based on the Spanish Inquisition until someone pointed out that might be in poor taste.

+1. And remember Questor's current incarnation--spelling Éire without the accent mark, which was/is a practice often used as an insult, and which doesn't translate to "Ireland" but rather "burden," all within the context of a "battle."

Yeah, they're that tone deaf and DuckDuckGo-challenged.

Yesterday, when a few small storms passed over Williamsburg, I chatted with a Park Ops Supervisor at WCUSA who has worked to the parks for over a decade. After talking some about his job in general, he talked some about MMXX, and I will gladly relay this information here, but of course take what he said with a grain of salt, given his position and relevance to Project 2020. For the record, I am up to date with all that ParkFans and BGWFans has discussed and provided regarding the attraction, and I realize that his information does not line up with most of what has been found, but I still thought it would be worth mentioning.

To play it safe, I did not imply that I was already privy to any information regarding the attraction that had been posted on BGWFans. The manager said that he has sat in on some meetings regarding the attractions, and over the course of the conversation opened up more and more about the nature of MMXX. First, he mentioned that BG would be building a new coaster, "100-150 taller than Mach Tower" going "70-75 mph." He said original plans were to build a Spain themed section, but they decided to just build a coaster and then add in an area later. Upon further questioning about the coaster itself, he recommended that I look up Mako at SeaWorld, and said it would be in a very similar style. When I asked him what he thought the name would be, he kinda took a bit saying that he technically shouldn't talk about it, but ultimately said something like, "I don't recall exactly, but from one of the meetings it was something like Zeus or Temple or along those lines. Yeah Zeus." The way he said it, Zeus seemed to be his primary take on it. I asked him about the Black Forest Picnic area clearings and height waiver, and he said he hadn't heard anything about that. That's all we really discussed specifically about MMXX, so do with that what you will. Perhaps it can be used to reveal more into the timeline of BG's Project Madrid/MMXX processes? Of course, remembering that this is a Water Country Employee primarily, but he clearly had been active in SeaWorld's affairs for a while, and works at the other park frequently with crowd control for Howl-o-Scream, Christmas Town, and other events.

Lastly, he encouraged me to check out this small niche website called "B...G...W...Fans or something like that they've got some good stuff and already have some blueprints. Of course they're not right about everything but they've got some good information."

Speaking from experience when working there at this point none of the supervisors especially the WCUSA ones are privy to any substantial information about the ride. The number of people who have any accurate information about the full scope of the attraction is very small. At this stage it's people from D&E, the department VPs and some marketing people. Beyond that no one really knows much. Honestly BGWfans knows more at this stage than pretty much everyone who works at BGW and WCUSA. There are rumors and some people know small details but it's a running joke at BGW that if you really want to know what's going on that you go read BGWfans and find out.

As far as the meetings this guy was in it's likely that they were just discussing rumors they had heard during a meeting or he's talking out of his ass. Now he might have been told some specifics about things by his manager or VP but it's unlikely.

Trials of the Gods would be such a great name based on what they are putting out there. Long name sure. But theming the elements after the gods would make this name make sense.

Herakles/Heracles is the Greek incarnation of the legend.

Not that I'm expecting perfect accuracy in a theme park, or anything close to it. But that would be a Greek spelling in an Italian area. And as much as Italians seem to love Greeks and "una faccia una racca" and all that, the fondness is not necessarily reciprocated in equal measure.

Maybe the story could have Viking raiders sailing to the Mediterranean during antiquity to broker better cultural understanding between Rome and ancient Greece, across the divide of time and space. It makes no sense, but at least the Mediterranean is a place the Vikings actually went.

Greece (not Spain) as a new hamlet?

I'd be thrilled by that. Always wondered what it might be like to see stepped white buildings on the hillside that, now, is to be occupied by a rather large roller coaster.

At least under the current plan they can keep several of the trees.

Agree - some fun architectural elements to work with... Santorini, Acropolis, Delphi. Best of all, a permanent location for the Mediterranean food stand.
