Yeah, pretty sure those LSMs become braking magnets if the switch fails. While the MMXX train will be going at a faster clip than Hagrid, there's still a lot more time for that switch to fail in place. I wonder if there's redundancy in the switch mechanism?

I wonder if there's redundancy in the switch mechanism?

If I had to guess I would assume it's built in such a way that if it fails it locks into the position where the first launch can enter the halfpipe area. This is just a guess because this seems like the safer option since they can then use the LSMs as a brake. Otherwise you have the potential to have a car coming at the switch without the switch being in place.

Is there 1 supplier for LSMs or does each company manufacture their own?
There are a few suppliers. Intamin makes their own and also sells stators to other companies. I can't remember the name they sell them under, but it is like IntaLIM or something cheesy like that. Verbolten has these and I remember seeing the sticker on a stator years ago. Premiere, I believe, makes their own, and there is a small company called Velocity Magnetics in PA that also makes them, well, at least they made them for Lighting Rod, but after that ride's troubles, I am not sure if they are continuing production.

You misunderstood my question @BGWnut . I'm aware the LSMs turn into but magnetic brakes. I meant if the hydraulics running the switch fails, is there back up hydraulics that kick in to control the switch? Like in airplanes, a redundancy for safety.

Perhaps I did. What I was trying to say that I'm sure there is multiple redundancies but I would assume the mechanism is designed in such a way that the default position is the position that allows it to enter the halfpipe portion if there is a failure for the hydraulics
