awesome pictures! obviously they're doing something... i doubt they would be starting work for HOS already so hopefully it's related to project madrid.
SLC Headache said:Seeing Drachen station work gives me hope that this is a coaster and not a tall flat. Unless it is a tall flat and the coaster is smaller.
Funny that I said something to the effect of "we don't need a Leviathan" earlier in this thread. Having actually ridden Leviathan now, I can say it's very distinct from I305 and Fury (spending more time in the air than those two, and having one of the best sustained airtime hills and high overbanks), and B&M would do well to revisit its elements if Project Madrid is a coaster and they're brought in.
With S&S being a huge possibility for the 2019 Ireland project - what if Madrid is a pneumatic launch coaster from them? This would be the ultimate way to one-up Kings Dominion, reviving HyperSonic's launch and topping I305's height.
Aren't they using the air launch on some coasters in China? Not gonna happen.
Besides these rides having extremely low capacity they are maintenance nightmares. Why do you think KD got rid of theirs after a few years and why there is only one other one that exists on this planet? There's a reason only two of these were ever made back in 2001.

Ah, I was getting confused, RCDB said some of those Chinese S&S installations as well as Ring Racer used compressed air launches.China?
There are only two S&S Air Thrust coasters ever made - Hypersonic XLC and KD and Dodonpa at Fuji-Q Highlands in Japan. Dodonpa was SBNO recently for a couple seasons as well.
As far as China goes, they have one launched coaster under construction that will use LSMs.

Oh, I was going by this: https://rcdb.com/r.htm?ot=2&el=12164

Heck, I'd be happy if this is a Space Shot or combo tower. The ones at Hershey/Dorney are nowhere near as big and the launch sets it apart from Mach Tower.
But that's like dismissing Mack because their Wild Mice aren't great.
Maybe I'm wrong and we have a bunch of world travelers here, but is anyone actually qualified to speak on the ride experience or reliability of S&S's latest major coaster designs?
Yeah, we've all ridden the 4D FreeSpins and they suck. I got it. But that's like dismissing Mack because their Wild Mice aren't great.
S&S has been building some impressive-on-paper coasters lately. OCT Thrust SSC1000 and Bullet Coaster at their respective Happy Valley parks. Launch Coaster at Sun Tzu Cultural Park is being constructed right now. Window to the World seems to be getting one too.
Anyway, it's easy to dismiss a manufacturer because of our experience with their attractions in the states. That said, sometimes, manufacturers are capable of a lot more—just no one has given them a contract to prove it yet.
And, for the record, it's normally up to the more desperate parks in the industry to give them a chance (Gale Force at Playland's Castaway Cove and Merlin's Mayhem at Dutch Wonderland are relevant S&S examples of this very process at work).
Normally a large theme park chain would never be the buyer of a coaster from a "C-list" manufacturers but, frankly, SEAS is a chain full of desperate parks right now. It wouldn't surprise me for a second to see some more strange manufacturers start to show up in Busch and SeaWorld Parks over the next few years.
BGW seems happy with Nessie's new S&S-made trains. If they're happy with their theoretical new Screamin' Swing as well, I don't think it's impossible to imagine a world in which S&S ends up building a large launch coaster somewhere in the SEAS chain.
Intamin: BGW went out of their way to avoid them when they built a drop tower and launch coaster, two products Intamin should have been the first name to go to for.Why would you ever build an S&S coaster when you can get an Intamin for the somehow better reliability and a waaaaay better ride experience? Or an RMC for what would be the same price?
I don’t think anybody is going to be excited for a ride similar to an infamous failure up the road.
